'International Seminar: Public Diplomacy and Cultural Cities: Shared Experiences'

Atalayar magazine will participate, next Friday 30th October, in the 'International Seminar: Public Diplomacy and Cultural Cities: Shared Experiences'. The course will take place over two days at the Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander and will be articulated in a series of lectures and round tables. They integrate both speakers and content, structured around three themes:  

  • The presence of different countries represented by their Embassies to share their experiences in the implementation of cultural city projects and their international promotion. 
  • The presence of representatives of local and private institutions participating in Santander's cultural project. 
  • The debate between cultural managers and journalists specialized in the international reality and intercultural relations.

The second day of the seminar will be conducted by Javier Fernández Arribas, journalist, international policy analyst and director of the magazine Atalayar between two shores, and José María Peredo Pombo, professor of Communication and International Policy at the European University of Madrid. The opening ceremony will be hosted by Gema Igual, Mayor of Santander, Majid al-Suwaidi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Spain, and Javier Fernández Arribas. 

The first round table, entitled 'Culture, a shared experience with Arab countries', will be presented by Iñigo Noriega, director of the Diario Montañés newspaper. Participants: Mohamed Alameri, president of the Hispanic - Emirate Club 'Casa del Profesor'; Enrique Bolado, general director of Culture at the Santander City Council; Luis Guerra, professor of Spanish Language at the European University of Madrid, and Roberto Ruiz, vice-rector of International Relations at the European University of the Atlantic. 

On the other hand, the second round table, 'Cultural exchange: communication, media and business', will be presented by Teresa Diez Martin, News Director for Onda Cero Cantabria. In addition, it will feature the participation of Ángel Astorqui (Plataforma de Empresas Culturales de Cantabria); Ramón Pérez Maura, assistant director of ABC newspaper; Fernando García del Río, cultural correspondent for La Vanguardia in Madrid; Sara Habibi, journalist for Al-Ain; and Razan Malash, journalist.

Finally, the afternoon session will be preceded by an institutional lunch at the Real Club de Tenis de Santander, at 2pm, and a visit to the Real Golf Pedreña and the Botin Center.
