The programme deals with the conclusions of the Africa-Spain Cooperation Summit in Madrid and the NATO summit in Vilnius with Western aid to Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion

"De cara al mundo": international analysis on Onda Madrid

De cara al mundo

"De cara al mundo", the programme on Onda Madrid directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, analyses the key international news on a weekly basis.

Madrid was the setting for the Africa-Spain Cooperation Summit. Africa is a continent of opportunities for Spain and Spanish and African representatives from more than 20 countries participated in the Spanish capital in the first Africa-Spain Cooperation Summit, organised by One Africa Forums, which aims to build bridges and show the possibilities offered by the African continent. At this important event, we were able to conduct numerous interviews, which we will be offering you over the next few programmes. This Friday we began with Jerónimo Falcón, investment attraction technician at Proexca, an agency of the Canary Islands Government, attached to the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Innovation, whose main objective is to support the internationalisation of the Canary Islands economy, and Rosa Cañadas, president of the Tanja Foundation.

Meanwhile, the NATO Summit was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, to discuss support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion. The dynamic of the Alliance is that after a momentous summit in Madrid came a transitional one in Vilnius, awaiting another that will be of great importance, such as the one to be held in Washington next year to coincide with the Alliance's 75th anniversary.

However, despite being a transitional summit, the Vilnius Summit has a number of elements that should be highlighted to understand NATO's evolution: the symbolism of Lithuania, commitment to Eastern Europe, commitment to defence spending, new members such as Finland and Sweden, and, of course, Ukraine.

In addition, US President Joe Biden and the leaders of the Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Denmark) held a highly symbolic summit in Finland on Thursday to show Russia the strength of NATO. Eugenia Hernández, Senior Advisor in the Security and Defence Office of the consultancy firm Llorente y Cuenca LLyC and Director of UNINT, the intelligence analysis unit of the SEI (School of Economic Intelligence and International Relations) of the Autonomous University of Madrid, will offer the keys to these issues together with the journalist María Senovilla and the expert international analyst Lucas Martín.

As every Friday, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. They will discuss the NATO summit in Vilnius, the war in Ukraine itself, the presence of US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in Beijing, the violent riots in France following the death of young Nahel and the actors' strike in Hollywood.

"De cara al mundo", Friday 14 July from 10.05pm to 11pm.
