‘De cara al mundo’: international analysis on Onda Madrid

De cara al mundo
The programme discusses the election of the new Pope Leo XIV, the conflict between India and Pakistan, and the war in Ukraine

‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, provides weekly analysis of world current affairs.

Leo XIV is the new Pope. Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, a 69-year-old Augustinian of Spanish descent, is the first Supreme Pontiff of the United States and the 267th of the Catholic Church.

The American cardinal with Spanish ancestry has spent most of his life in Peru and has become the first Supreme Pontiff of the United States after being elected by the Conclave as the highest representative of the Catholic Church and successor to Saint Peter. He has chosen the name Leo XIV and becomes the 267th Pope in history.

Peace was the word repeated numerous times by the new Pope Leo XIV during his first speech. He mentioned his order of St. Augustine and recalled the late Francis, with whom he coincided in the Church's most social work for the benefit of the most disadvantaged. He has extensive experience as a missionary and considers the Church to be missionary. With a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, he is a good manager, responsible for the Order of Saint Augustine, and currently held the position of Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan continue to exchange attacks in recent days, although last night the exchange of fire was less intense. There is international concern about a possible escalation of a conflict that has been simmering for many years between two nuclear powers.

International relations expert Gustavo de Arístegui will analyse the situation in ‘De cara al mundo’.

In addition, the war in Ukraine continues. The world is facing situations that are anything but coincidental. Peace, peace and peace yesterday in St. Peter's Square in Rome with the new Pope, while there was ostentatious displays of war in Moscow's Red Square with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Nicolás Maduro at the victory parade against the Nazis. Eighty years have passed and how little we have learned, especially some of us. Ukraine is experiencing a three-day truce decreed by Russian President Putin.

Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla and expert international analyst Lucas Martín will provide the main insights.

As every day, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. They will discuss the new Pope Leo XIV, the show of military force by Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Nicolás Maduro in Moscow's Red Square, the war between India and Pakistan, US tariffs and the war in Ukraine.

‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 9 May from 10.05 p.m. to 11 p.m.
