‘De cara al mundo’: international analysis on Onda Madrid
The programme addresses the conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Colombia and the transatlantic relationship between the US and the EU
‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, provides weekly analysis of the main sources of international tension.
This week, the conflict in Ukraine has escalated once again. Russia has launched one of the heaviest bombardments in recent weeks, with more than 500 drones and 40 missiles targeting strategic targets such as power stations and production facilities. Meanwhile, the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is cooling, as Moscow claims that such a meeting would require lengthy preparation. For his part, Donald Trump has stated that Ukraine must go on the offensive if it wants to achieve victory.
Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla will analyse the latest developments in the conflict and the West's stance on the Russian offensive.
In Gaza, Benjamin Netanyahu's Israeli government is facing a double reality. On the one hand, it has begun a military operation to take full control of Gaza City, with troops already controlling access points and an evacuation order for one million people. On the other hand, a negotiating team has been sent to explore a possible ceasefire with Hamas.
Lucas Martín, international analyst, will explain the strategic implications of this operation and the diplomatic options that are opening up in the conflict.
On the economic and geopolitical front, the United States and the European Union have issued a joint statement committing themselves to establishing a framework for fair and stable transatlantic trade and investment. This new agreement seeks to restore predictability in trade relations and benefit both businesses and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic.
Meanwhile, in Colombia, violence is once again rocking the country. At least 18 people have been killed and more than 40 injured in two attacks attributed to dissident factions of the former FARC. President Gustavo Petro has condemned the attacks and pointed the finger directly at the armed groups that have abandoned the peace process.
As every day, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors: Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. The discussion will address the conflicts in Israel-Gaza, Ukraine-Russia, US-EU relations, tensions between Venezuela and the United States, and the latest attacks in Colombia.
‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 22 August, from 10.05 p.m. to 11 p.m., on Onda Madrid.
