‘De cara al mundo’: international analysis on Onda Madrid
‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, provides weekly analysis of world current affairs.
Donald Trump, President of the United States, says that Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, has ‘disappointed’ him, and Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, calls for more pressure on the Russian leader. Both leaders have sought to project an image of unity by sidestepping their differences on Gaza, irregular immigration and renewable energy.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has stepped up his attacks on the media and freedom of expression following the murder of Charlie Kirk. His government's pressure to indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel from his ABC programme for a comment about the murdered activist adds to demands to silence critical press, the targeting of reporters and the plan to persecute left-wing organisations.
As for political instability in France, more than a million people are protesting against cuts in the strike called in France. The protests, led by the main trade unions, seek to send a signal to the new Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, to halt the cuts proposed by the previous Prime Minister, François Bayrou.
Meanwhile, the war in Gaza continues. The entire Strip loses its internet connection as thousands of Gazans flee the Israeli advance in Gaza City. Israeli troops advance on their third day of a ground offensive on the Gazan capital. In addition, the European Union approves the suspension of part of its trade agreement with Israel and leaves the final decision in the hands of member states. Brussels' pressure on Netanyahu's government over its war on Gaza will require the approval of a qualified majority.
The war in Ukraine also continues. With the focus on Donald Trump and his visit to the United Kingdom, Putin continues his attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine and its logistics centres. Volodimir Zelenski, the Ukrainian president, announces the recovery of 160 square kilometres of territory.
Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla and international political analyst Lucas Martín will offer the most relevant insights in ‘De cara al mundo’.
As every day, the discussion will feature Atalayar's regular contributors: Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. The debate will focus on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, political instability in France and Donald Trump's political stance towards Vladimir Putin.
‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 19 September, from 10.05 p.m. to 11 p.m.
