De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, provides weekly analysis of world news.

The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) reported on Thursday that US fighter jets had intercepted and tracked four Russian fighter jets and bombers on a patrol mission near Alaska.

The action represents a new episode of aerial friction in an international context marked by recent incursions by Russian aircraft into NATO territory. Denmark describes the flight of drones over its airports as a ‘systematic hybrid attack’.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has denounced at the United Nations that there is no ceasefire in Ukraine ‘because Russia refuses’.

Zelensky was emphatic in his speech, just one day after US President Donald Trump expressed his support and went so far as to say that, with the necessary help, Ukraine could ‘regain all its territory’. The Kremlin has dismissed this statement as false.

Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla will analyse the most relevant issues in ‘De cara al mundo’.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticised leaders who have recognised Palestine as a state in his speech to the General Assembly and insisted that there will be no Palestinian state.

US President Donald Trump declared on Thursday that he will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. This represents a complete turnaround in his relations with the Jewish state.

In addition, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has distanced himself from Hamas by rejecting the attacks of 7 October 2023 and demanding the release of Israeli hostages. ‘They do not represent the Palestinian people or their just struggle,’ he stressed, insisting that Gaza is an integral part of Palestine and that armed factions must surrender their weapons within the framework of a future modern and demilitarised state of which Hamas ‘will not be a part’.

In other news, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to five years in prison for illicit association in the case investigating the alleged financing of his 2007 presidential campaign by the regime of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Expert international analyst Lucas Martín will provide the most relevant insights.

As every day, the discussion will feature the usual contributors to Atalayar: Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. The debate will focus on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and the debates in the United Nations General Assembly on the Palestinian situation and Israeli aggression.

De cara al mundo’, Friday 26 September, from 10:05 p.m. to 11:00 p.m..
