Chavismo releases ‘a significant number’ of prisoners in Venezuela, including five Spaniards. The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced on Thursday the start of the process of releasing ‘a significant number of Venezuelan and foreign nationals’ as a “gesture” to advance the ‘search for peace’. Although he did not give details about this initiative, the Spanish government has confirmed that five prisoners with Spanish nationality are now free.
US President Donald Trump announces a meeting in Washington with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado and actions against drug trafficking in Mexico.

Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues. The year 2026 begins with a survey that reveals some telling data: 74% of Ukrainians are against any peace plan that involves the withdrawal of troops from the Donbas areas still under the control of Volodymyr Zelensky's government.
