‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, analyses world news every week. 

Chavismo releases ‘a significant number’ of prisoners in Venezuela, including five Spaniards. The president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced on Thursday the start of the process of releasing ‘a significant number of Venezuelan and foreign nationals’ as a “gesture” to advance the ‘search for peace’. Although he did not give details about this initiative, the Spanish government has confirmed that five prisoners with Spanish nationality are now free.

US President Donald Trump announces a meeting in Washington with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado and actions against drug trafficking in Mexico.

Meanwhile, protests continue in Iran. A massive demonstration in Tehran follows twelve days of protests against the Ayatollah regime. The authorities restrict internet access throughout the country. At least 45 people have died since the social unrest began, according to an NGO.

In addition, Greenland is the key piece in the Arctic that is once again straining relations between Donald Trump and Europe. The United States' interest in the Danish island, based on ‘national security’, reopens the debate on its strategic, military and economic value in the midst of rivalry with Russia and China.

Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues. The year 2026 begins with a survey that reveals some telling data: 74% of Ukrainians are against any peace plan that involves the withdrawal of troops from the Donbas areas still under the control of Volodymyr Zelensky's government.

Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla and expert international analyst Lucas Martín will analyse the most relevant issues.
