'De cara al mundo': international analysis on Onda Madrid

De cara al mundo
The programme analyses the situation in Venezuela following the US intervention, the protests in Iran, the Peace Board for Gaza, US interference in Greenland and the war in Ukraine

‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, addresses global current affairs on a weekly basis.

On Thursday, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented US President Donald Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize medal, framed with a message of ‘gratitude’ from the Venezuelan people for his actions to achieve ‘their freedom’.

The White House said that the Venezuelan government, led by Delcy Rodríguez, has so far complied ‘with all the demands and requests of the United States and President’ Donald Trump since the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro by Washington.

Meanwhile, the uprising in Iran is entering a critical phase. The national insurrection in Iran has entered a decisive and bloody phase. What began as mass protests against economic collapse and political repression has quickly turned into one of the most violent clashes between the population and the ruling theocracy in decades.

US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz told the Security Council that ‘all options are on the table’ to ‘stop the massacre’ in the anti-government protests in Iran, in which more than 3,000 people have died, according to figures from organisations.

The White House says it is aware that Iran has suspended 800 executions.

In addition, US President Donald Trump announced that he has formed the Peace Board, the body that will oversee the future technocratic government of Gaza, although he avoided giving the names of its members, which he said ‘will be announced shortly’. The European Union (EU) welcomed ‘with satisfaction’ the start of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip and expressed its desire for it to be ‘fully implemented’, with the disarmament of Hamas, the arrival of humanitarian aid and the reconstruction of the enclave.

Meanwhile, the governments of Denmark and Greenland highlighted the importance of initiating direct dialogue with the United States on the interest in this autonomous Danish territory, while several European countries joined the initiative to strengthen the island's defence.

Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues. Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure continue.

Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla and expert international analyst Lucas Martín will analyse the most relevant issues in ‘De cara al mundo’.

As every day, the discussion will feature Atalayar's regular contributors: Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. The debate will focus on the situation in Venezuela, the protests in Iran, the war in Ukraine, the United States' intentions regarding Greenland and the reconstruction of Gaza.

‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 16 January, from 10.05 p.m. to 11 p.m.
