From 27 November to 1 December, Dakhla hosted the 18th edition of the International Congress of the World's Most Beautiful Bays.

A very special edition because it was the first to be held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

The event was organised by the International Association of the World's Most Beautiful Bays, in this case the Dakhla Bay Association, under the chairmanship of Mohammed Cherif, and supported by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, chaired by Yanja El Khattat, and other local authorities.

It served as a platform for dialogue, debate and exchange of experiences on various issues related to the preservation and enhancement of the bays, with special attention to environmental protection and sustainable development, issues to which the Moroccan kingdom attaches great importance.

Other participants included the President of the World's Most Beautiful Bays Association, Louis Thébault, and Dominique Doucette, President of the Youth Committee for the World's Most Beautiful Bays Association, and Marian Daumas, Vice-President of the Youth Committee.

Mohammed Cherif, President of the Bay of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Association, was one of the key figures behind the success of the congress, highlighting the importance of this event and the natural environment of the Bay of Dakhla. The meeting was a great success under the direction of Mohamed Cherif himself, with a high level of attendance and participation of the people involved and of the representatives of all the participating bays that are members of the Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World.

The balance of the Congress was very positive and Mohammed Cherif himself wanted to express his ‘most sincere thanks’ for the participation, kindness and enthusiasm of all the attendees throughout the event.

For Mohammed Cherif, it was an ‘adventure full of learning’. ‘This congress sometimes felt like a game of chess, but every challenge was a lesson, and their smiles on arrival were always my greatest reward,’ said Mohamed Cherif, who was keen to ensure that everything ran in ‘the best conditions’.

The Congress highlighted the international recognition of the Dakhla region as an important player in Morocco's efforts to promote sustainable development and environmental protection.

The Bay of Dakhla showcased its qualities and the unique value of its natural environment. ‘Within the framework of local, regional and national environmental policy, the Bay of Dakhla is an essential link in the chain of environmental protection in Morocco,’ said the President of the Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Yanja El Khattat. ‘We are proud of this recognition reflected in the participation of 27 bays in the world that together ensure the protection and preservation of their natural resources, being a real jewel of terrestrial and maritime biodiversity,’ he said.

Mohammed Cherif demonstrated Morocco's hospitality and highlighted the attractiveness of Dakhla for all those who want to visit the area: ‘You are always welcome in the Kingdom of Morocco, whether with family or friends. Dakhla and its majestic dunes await you, ready to welcome you with music, while the wind caresses its grains of golden sand’.

The president of the Association Baie de Dakhla-Oued Eddahab invited everyone to enjoy the next edition to be held in Canada in 2025: ‘I look forward to seeing you next year in Canada, marked on the calendar offered by the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, for new adventures even more beautiful and inspiring. And this time, dear Baie de Sine Saloum, I promise to sit on that famous empty chair that I have left... twice already in Dakhla’!

Mohammed Cherif did not want to forget to show his gratitude to Morocco, as host country of the Congress through Dakhla and its wonderful bay, to the Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, and to all the representatives of the Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World, including those from the Bay of Dakhla.
