Emirates continues to lead in Bloomberg's COVID Resilience Ranking
The United Arab Emirates continues to lead Bloomberg's COVID Resilience Rankings, outperforming the world's 52 largest economies, in relation to doses of vaccines administered to citizens, as countries continue to make progress in the fight against the virus, Bloomberg said. "The country also performed well on 'Vaccinated Travel Routes' and has maintained a low case count last month, along with limited overall mortality," it added.
The Arab state has remained a consistent and high-performing country, thanks to good organisation in the vaccination campaign, as well as the imposition of strict measures in the wake of the health crisis. "On Thursday, the total number of vaccine doses administered stood at 24,087,368, a rate of 243.54 doses per 100 people," the Ministry of Health and Prevention said. In the latest update on COVID-19 cases, the Asian country reported 782 new cases, with the number of active cases dropping to 48,080 from 70,743 on 6 February.
In the top ten of the rankings are Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Australia, Spain, Finland, Colombia, the UK and Portugal. The United Kingdom moved up three places in the ranking to ninth place, as the country has been easing restrictions, while the United States moved up to 20th place, taking into account the decline of the Omicron outbreak.
Poland, the Philippines, Russia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Pakistan, occupying the last five places, round off the ranking. Pakistan is ranked lowest due to "low inoculation levels, tight restrictions on unvaccinated people, as well as weak health care infrastructure," Bloomberg reported. Hong Kong has also dropped a total of 19 places in the ranking because it is currently facing an outbreak of cases.
The COVID-19 crisis has affected every country, creating a challenge never seen before, and a ranking has been created to analyse which nations are tackling the public health crisis best. The Bloomberg COVID Resilience Ranking assesses the best places to live globally during the pandemic crisis, the rankings of nations are a photographic snapshot of how world powers are managing the pandemic crisis, protecting the economic and social spheres. In conducting this process, Bloomberg uses 11 data indicators to rank each of the 53 countries included in the Ranking such as case growth, health system quality, dose administration, mortality rate and progress towards resuming international travel.
The Middle Eastern country's strong health performance has been reflected in the number of tourists arriving in the country. Dubai has been able to maintain its position as the number one choice for a safe tourist destination, registering positive growth over the past year. This has seen the hospitality sector outperform pre-pandemic figures, showing a positive recovery.
Dubai, throughout 2021 and early 2022, has been developing an effective campaign of measures to contain the pandemic, in fact, it was one of the first cities in the world to close the region two years ago, but it was also one of the first cities to open. The United Arab Emirates is also one of the most vaccinated countries in the international community, with approximately 94% of the population already vaccinated, and as a result, the Arab country continues to lead the Bloomberg COVID Resilience Ranking.
