Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nanyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, paid an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Humanitarian City where families evacuated from Afghanistan are temporarily hosted and will be heading to other countries to complete their process of refuge after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of international troops from the Asian country.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces was able to see first-hand all the services offered to the Afghan refugees to improve their living conditions while their immediate future is being determined following their hasty departure from Afghanistan.

The Emirates Humanitarian City is hosting dozens of people who began their journey from Afghanistan to other host countries such as the United States.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was briefed by US officials on the process of organising departures and the smooth running of procedures, as reported by the official Emirati news agency WAM. The Abu Dhabi crown prince gave direct orders for everything necessary to ensure that these people are provided with the greatest possible comfort after the vicissitudes they have suffered on Afghan territory, and also that they are provided with all the material they need to start their journey in the near future.

Afghanistan has had a turbulent few weeks following the decree and completion of the withdrawal of international troops and the Taliban insurgents taking advantage of this situation to seize power in the nation with a view to establishing a government governed by Islamic law, which will be seen how radical it can become.

The Emirates Humanitarian City began operating in 2020 with the mission to protect and care for needy and vulnerable people. It has facilities to cover various needs of minors and adults and also has a preventive health centre and has medicines, food and all kinds of humanitarian material for all those who need it.

It is also worth noting that an Emirati humanitarian and medical aid plane was sent to Afghanistan to meet the basic needs of thousands of Afghan families. This is the first relief plane to arrive in Afghanistan to meet the needs of the most vulnerable groups of people, such as women, children and the elderly, as reported by Al-Ain media.

In this way, the UAE continues to demonstrate the highest level of commitment to helping countries and people in need around the world, as it has already amply demonstrated with all the personal and material assistance it has provided to combat the COVID-19 health crisis over many months.
