The United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent urgent medical aid to Lebanon to combat the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the donation made by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, continuing the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who coordinated the assistance carried out to alleviate the serious effects caused by the Beirut explosion that left at least 154 dead.

The medical assistance included 12 tons of testing devices and medical supplies to support medical workers, prevention and personal hygiene tools and diagnostic devices for COVID-19.

These medical supplies will enable more than 10,000 medical professionals to perform their duties on the front line against the pathogen and reinforce their efforts to contain the coronavirus.

The provision of the aid is part of the campaign of solidarity with the Lebanese people and efforts to reduce the intensity of the health crisis there. An operation that the Gulf country has been engaged in from the outset.

The United Arab Emirates has provided medical aid to 92 countries estimated at 1,250 tons, helping more than 1.2 million health workers in these nations to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. This is part of an international aid campaign that has involved the Gulf nation's humanitarian cooperation with all kinds of countries, from world powers such as China, the United States and the United Kingdom, to more disadvantaged and under-resourced nations such as several African and Asian states.
