‘De cara al mundo’: international analysis on Onda Madrid

De cara al mundo
The programme analysed the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, Bolsonaro's conviction, tensions between Russia and Ukraine, and the Israeli offensive in Gaza

‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, tackles international current affairs every week.

The murder of Charlie Kirk has caused shockwaves in the United States. Following the incident, the FBI continues to investigate the murder of the ultra-conservative activist. The crime, which was caught on camera, has deepened the political divide in the world's most heavily armed country. In order to resolve the motives behind Kirk's murder as soon as possible, the FBI is offering £80,000 in exchange for information that could lead to the capture of the killer.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency session after Poland invoked Article 4 of NATO due to Russia's violation of Polish airspace. This incident has heightened tensions between Ukraine and Russia. Journalist and Atalayar contributor María Senovilla will analyse the key factors in this scenario.

Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise in the Middle East following Israel's attack on the ideological leaders of the 7 October 2023 attack in Doha, Qatar. Since the attack, Israel has announced the intensification of its offensive in Gaza City, asking its citizens to leave for the south-western regions of the country. It should be noted that more than one million Palestinians reside in the city of Gaza, however, there have not yet been any large-scale displacements of people.

In Latin America, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been sentenced by the Brazilian Supreme Court to 27 years and 3 months in prison for conspiring against the democratic order after his latest electoral defeat to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. From the United States, Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, says Bolsonaro's arrest is a ‘witch hunt’ and Donald Trump, President of the United States, has expressed his astonishment at the Brazilian court's decision on social media. To discuss this, the programme will feature analyst and journalist Lucas Martín.

As every day, the discussion will feature Atalayar's regular contributors: Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. The debate will focus on political assassinations in the United States, the war in Ukraine and tensions with Poland, Bolsonaro's conviction in Brazil and the Israeli offensive on Gaza.

‘Facing the world’, Friday 12 September, from 10.05pm to 11pm.
