Francisco de la Torre: "Malaga receives with humble pride the distinction of the Observatory"
Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of Malaga, has received the Distinction of the Human Rights Observatory of Spain, which recognizes the city in its commitment to Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals, being the first Spanish city to receive this title.
"It is with humble pride that we receive the distinction of the Observatory" said the Mayor of Malaga in his speech after receiving an award that, as he himself acknowledged "will be an incentive to continue working on the day to day of Human Rights recognized in the Spanish Constitution and the United Nations Declaration".
In the Hall of Mirrors of the City Hall took place a simple and emotional ceremony of delivery of the Distinction that the Observatory of Human Rights of Spain (ODHE) has decided to award to Malaga.
The president of the ODHE, Mario Rigau, has delivered to the mayor of the city, Francisco de la Torre, this title that highlights the city's commitment to Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals, being Malaga the first Spanish city to receive this distinction.
Other members of the ODHE were also present: Pilar Rangel (professor at the University of Malaga), Javier Fernández Arribas (director of Atalayar), Leonor Gallardo (vice-rector of the University of Catilla La Mancha) and César Poveda (director of Mutua Umivale).
In addition to the mayor, the City Council was represented by representatives of the different political groups and members of the social participation team.
In his speech, the mayor of the city stressed the need for education in values, equality, coexistence, respect, dialogue and non-violence in order to move forward on the path of respect for human rights and the Constitution.
De la Torre thanked this recognition "excessive that stimulates us and conscience to continue advancing and highlighted the very existence of the Observatory as an initiative of civil society "because it is not only the responsibility of public administrations to ensure a situation that allows no one is left behind, also companies, NGOs and institutions contribute every day to make a better society and place the city of Malaga and Spain at the top of the international rankings in a planet where understanding between all cultures is promoted.
The president of the ODHE explained the reasons for the awarding of this Distinction, highlighting the message that Malaga being a successful and thriving city, with a present and an exciting future, maintains a firm commitment to leave no one behind, so that all Malagueños and Malagueñas are participants in the prosperity of their city.
