This allocation will make it possible to promote the socio-occupational integration of refugees in Spain, facilitate social and health transfers of people in situations of extreme vulnerability and attend to internally displaced persons

The "la Caixa" Foundation allocates 1.5 million euros to the Red Cross to help internally displaced persons and Ukrainian refugees

La donación potenciará tanto la atención a los desplazados internos como a las personas acogidas en España a causa del conflicto de Ucrania

The "la Caixa" Foundation will allocate a total of 1.5 million euros to the Red Cross to promote both the care of internally displaced persons and of people taken into care in Spain as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.

This contribution will be distributed among three lines of action of the humanitarian organisation. The first of these focuses on facilitating the socio-occupational integration of refugees and applicants for international protection through personalised plans. These plans include covering basic needs, strengthening emotional well-being, legal assistance, labour integration itineraries and school reinforcement, among other areas of work

Secondly, the funds will be used to facilitate socio-health transfers (in medicalised vehicles, ambulances, adapted transport or aeroplanes) of people in situations of extreme vulnerability who are going to be received in Spain.

Thirdly, the "la Caixa" Foundation will support Red Cross care for internally displaced people in the southwest region of Ukraine and on the border with Romania (where a large number of people are being concentrated and are expected to be), with the city of Chernivtsi as the centre. This international organization is promoting actions aimed at meeting the most immediate needs of the displaced.

Antonio Vila Bertrán, Director General of the "la Caixa" Foundation, stressed that "with this initiative we want to support the essential work of the Red Cross in the conflict in Ukraine. We are convinced that this type of alliance is the best and most effective tool for tackling a humanitarian crisis that challenges us and requires the commitment and solidarity of everyone".

This collaboration with the Red Cross is in addition to the contribution of 1 million euros that the "la Caixa" Foundation has allocated to UNHCR to cover the most basic needs (food, medicines, hygiene articles and safe accommodation) of the people affected in Ukraine and the bordering countries
