Melania, a star is born

A $75 million investment, a controversial but prestigious director, three great cinematographers, an army of the best hair, makeup, and costume stylists, and a massive worldwide promotional campaign have catapulted Melania Trump to the zenith of the film world

Her husband, President Donald Trump, with his usual pomposity and self-assurance, has already called for an Oscar for his brand-new wife, as convinced that she deserves it as he does the Nobel Peace Prize.

Classified as a documentary film, “Melania” is, in the opinion of its main performer, “a creative experience that offers perspectives, reflections, and moments that only a few perceive; it is, therefore, a beautiful, emotional, contemporary, and very cinematic creation, of which I am very proud,” said Melania Trump herself on the red carpet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the venue for the preview, where, accompanied by her husband, she looked as stunning, sophisticated, and elegant as she usually does at all the events she attends, and as she appears in the film, which chronicles the 20 days leading up to Trump's second presidential inauguration, including the departure from the White House of his predecessor, his hated Joe Biden.

The climax of the documentary consists of the 22 hours before and after this new inauguration at the White House, especially in the East Wing, which is reserved for the First Lady.

Far from revealing the secrets of her most intimate relationship with Donald Trump since the former Slovenian model married him in 2005, the documentary or “creative experience” is a beautiful portrait of the First Lady of the United States, directed by Brett Ratner and assisted by three cinematographers, including Dante Spinotti, considered by many critics to be the best in the world.

However, both acknowledge, and its protagonist emphasizes, the role that Melania Trump played throughout the filming, as the true inspiration for shots, sequences, script modifications, and meticulous costumes, which in fact make her the star of this gigantic production, at least in terms of the amount of money invested in it.

Although there are different versions regarding the cost of the documentary, most sources put it at around $75 million, of which $35 million was allocated to the promotion of this film by Amazon MGM Studios, owned by Jeff Bezos.

Apart from the reviews of the documentary, which vary greatly depending on the publication, the biggest question mark hangs over the colossal amount of the aforementioned investment and the virtual impossibility of recouping it through box office receipts alone.

It therefore seems reasonable to conclude that Bezos has not only bet on launching the wife of the most powerful man on Earth to stardom. Amazon is one of the largest companies with the most contracts with the US government. Bezos is also the owner of the space company Blue Origin, which also has a promising immediate future if Trump's ambitious interstellar projects come to fruition.

In any case, the Melania Trump gold mine does not seem to have been exhausted with this documentary, as the leaders of Amazon MGM Studios have already put their best screenwriters to work on the first drafts of a three-part docuseries, all of them about Melania's life in New York, Washington, and Palm Beach, respectively. “Melania” would then have been the unavoidable and most appealing prologue to pique the curiosity and hunger of entertainment consumers to know and see more of the ins and outs of Trump Tower, the White House, and the Mar-a-Lago residence.

And if the film crew has the same access it enjoyed in the production of “Melania,” there is no doubt that it can attract millions of viewers on platforms that, coincidentally, would have many close ties to Trump, in the business sector, of course.
