The ranking of the best destinations for those who choose to travel alone is headed by the Kingdom, due to its high scores for hotels and tourist activities

Morocco: a favourite destination for solo travellers

The pandemic has generated in travel lovers the desire to visit new destinations that are different from the usual and, above all, to do it alone in order to maintain their independence and control of the situation, as psychologists reveal. Solo travellers now account for more than 60% of travellers, as confirmed by the travel agency Gruppit. Among them are mainly millennials, who improvise their trips with little time for planning, preferring to visit destinations that are perfect for this, such as Morocco.

The 2022 report by the British sports company SportsCover Direct, places Morocco at the top of the ranking of the best destinations for solo travel, with a score of 29 out of 30 based on the percentages obtained in hotels and activities for travellers on TripAdvisor. Some 45% of the country's hotels have an excellent five-star rating and more than 50% of the activities have an excellent five-star rating, with the best rated being the sightseeing tour of the Majorelle Garden.

Spain, meanwhile, is the top destination for safe destinations for solo female travellers, with a score of 47 out of 50 for its level of safety. The safest destinations are in Europe, with Croatia in second place and Ireland in third, followed far behind by Canada and Singapore. The issue of safety is undoubtedly one of the most important issues for Solo Travelers and a real concern for 50% of women.

In the world ranking of solo tours, the first place goes to India, which has a total of 3,047 tours, followed by Italy with 1,225 and Egypt with 1,040. Morocco remains in the top 5 with 993 tours. The desire to meet new people, whether locals or tourists, has increased Google searches for tours just for solo travellers by more than 150%.

Furthermore, Morocco has not only stood out as one of the best destinations for solo travellers, but recently also the British car manufacturer, CarMats, included three Moroccan destinations in its top 10 of the most iconic places for road trips. In fourth place are the Atlas Mountains, a majestic mountain range that runs the length of northwest Africa from Tunisia to Morocco and whose population is mainly Berber. In fifth place is the Sahara Loop connecting Morocco to Mauritania, followed by the Coastal Road Trip, in sixth place, which runs along the entire Atlantic coastline. To determine the destinations and their position in this ranking, criteria such as the annual temperature, the number of days needed to complete the route by road and light pollution, among others, were used.

Indeed, it seems that all the efforts made by the Moroccan Tourist Board to position the country as one of the best tourist destinations and to position itself as one of the most influential in the travel and tourism industry is bearing fruit. The progress it is making in the world rankings thanks to programmes such as "Morocco, land of light", attracting tourism and its investments, makes it more than likely that the Kingdom will be able to meet its goal of being in the top 10 of the world's top destinations by 2026.
