And the second aim is to give nurses the opportunity to have the necessary skills to specialise in family medicine, since its importance is high on the government's agenda, especially in the health system.
However, it should be mentioned that family medicine is defined as a medical speciality focused on primary care. It is a very broad medicine that treats all health problems, irrespective of age and gender.
As for public health care, since 2015 all Moroccan citizens are obliged to join a medical coverage called AMO (Assurance Maladie Obligatoire) which is the compulsory health insurance. This medical coverage provides you with general medical care, all kinds of analyses and care.
Meanwhile, in the private health sector, the worker pays a contribution to the Moroccan social security, in which case he/she can go to any doctor and to any clinic. It should be noted that the private sector in Morocco is well developed, as they have highly trained doctors and, above all, provide very good quality care.
Morocco is always trying to make constant improvements; in order to improve the standard of living of its citizens, a few months ago the Ministry of Health decided to lower taxes on medicines, and by 2025 it is expected to increase the number of health professionals by 90,000, according to an agreement announced by the Council of Ministers, with 24 health professionals for every 10,000 inhabitants.
Moroccan medical professionals are in great demand in Europe, so many are emigrating to Europe. The Minister of Higher Education, Abdellatif Miraoui, says that half of the 1,400 doctors currently training in the faculties of medicine and pharmacy are leaving.
During the coronavirus crisis, Germany suspended visas for nationals of all countries in the world except Moroccan students. About 300 doctors leave Morocco each year, most of them choosing Germany and France. This is mainly because of working conditions and low salaries.
The minister declared that they are going to reduce the duration of medical services, studies from seven to six years so that the development of technology will allow scientific training.
It is expected that with all these improvements, the new development model of 2030 will be exceeded, as the minister also stated, in order to solve all the needs and lack of qualification among doctors.
The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, said: "The sovereignty of our country also depends on the sovereignty of our health system. If we do not prepare for our future, we will be a country dependent on other countries for human resources (doctors, pharmacists, nurses)''.
