Salou, an exceptional setting for the Festa al Cel
Salou will host the 2025 edition, which will be held this weekend, from September 19 to 21, and will feature more than 20 confirmed exhibitions, including aerobatic teams, fighter planes, helicopters, and historic aircraft from all over Europe.
A training day is scheduled for Friday, September 19, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., which will allow participating teams to carry out test flights and various technical checks.
On Saturday, September 20, the Sunset Airshow will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., transforming Llevant Beach into a light and sound show, with illuminated flights, aerial choreography, music, and synchronized pyrotechnics.
Finally, on Sunday 21, the Grand Airshow will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., a grand aerial exhibition full of acrobatics and excitement, which will also have the advantage that the orientation of Salou's beaches prevents the sun from shining directly on the audience, allowing them to enjoy the show in optimal conditions.
The Salou City Council's commitment is led by its mayor, Pere Granados
Q: With Festa al Cel, Salou is taking an important step in presenting itself as a very interesting destination, beyond tourism.
A: Festa al Cel marks a turning point for Salou. It is an international festival that allows us to showcase ourselves as a modern and diverse destination, capable of attracting visitors not only for our beaches, but also for the quality of our cultural, sporting, and leisure events. With this, we are taking a firm step towards diversifying our tourist offer and promoting Salou as the capital of unique experiences in the Mediterranean.
Q: Salou is the perfect place to enjoy this type of festival, with a significant number of aircraft and professionals taking part.
A: Our municipality has the ideal conditions: a privileged natural setting by the sea, a well-established tourist infrastructure, and a professional and associative network ready to host major events. In addition, the participation of international aerobatic teams, fighter planes, helicopters, and historic aircraft gives the festival enormous prestige. All of this makes Salou the best possible showcase for enjoying a world-class show in Europe.
Q: The work carried out ensures that the festival can be held in complete safety.
A: Safety is undoubtedly the most important aspect. We have worked exhaustively with the Government Delegation, the Sub-delegation, the Air and Space Force, the Navy, the Civil Guard, the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Local Police, and Civil Protection. The result is a joint operation that ensures that the festival can be enjoyed in a completely safe environment for everyone. We want citizens to have an exciting experience, but also a peaceful and protected one.
Q: Salou has much more to offer than just sun and sand, and stands out for its sporting opportunities, ecological sustainability, historical heritage, and gastronomy.
A: Salou is much more than just a sun and sand destination. We have recovered our natural heritage with the Camí de Costa and the Ruta de los Miradores, which showcase the richness of our coastline. We promote sports with high-level facilities, we promote high-quality Mediterranean cuisine, and we value our historical legacy, such as the Torre Vella and the memory of King Jaume I. We do all this with a sustainable vision, because we want Salou to be a competitive destination, but also one that is respectful of the environment and people.
Q: Salou has achieved a coexistence between people of many nationalities that is to be valued and considered.
A: One of Salou's great values is its diversity. People of more than 120 nationalities live together in harmony in our city. We have managed to transform that diversity into coexistence, respect, and a sense of shared community. This makes us a cosmopolitan city that is open to the world, where everyone can find their place and feel part of the social and cultural life of the municipality.
Q: In these turbulent times, promoting civil-military collaboration is particularly important for society's sense of security.
A: Festa al Cel is also an opportunity to bring citizens closer to the work of our Armed Forces, which play an essential role in defending peace, security, and democratic values. In a turbulent world, it is important to strengthen trust between civil society and military institutions. This festival helps to create that collective awareness of security and shared responsibility, while offering us a unique and exciting show.
Q: Levante beach in Salou has just been voted the best in Spain by readers of the newspaper 20Minutos. What does that mean?
A: It is a very special recognition because it comes directly from the public, from thousands of readers who have valued the quality of our beaches. The fact that Levante beach has been voted the best in Spain means that Salou is at the top of the national tourist map and that our efforts to care for, protect, and enhance our coastline are paying off. It is a source of pride and also a responsibility to continue working to maintain our beaches as benchmark spaces that are safe, sustainable, and attractive for everyone.
