Seghrouchni oversees the signing of two strategic agreements on artificial intelligence and energy transition in Dakhla
As part of the MDSáhara Forum, held in Dakhla from November 13 to 16, two important agreements in the fields of artificial intelligence and energy transition were signed in Dakhla by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Ali Khalil, Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Yanja El Khattat, President of the Regional Council, as well as the Director General of the New and Renewable Energy Research Center and the President of Ibn Zohr University.
The signing of these two agreements marks a new milestone in the integrated development of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. At the same time, it confirms the emergence of structuring projects based on clean energy and advanced technologies, which place human capital and knowledge at the heart of the Kingdom's digital and energy transformations.
National and African center for innovation
In accordance with the guidelines of King Mohammed VI, this initiative aims to strengthen the Kingdom's digital and energy sovereignty, consolidate the role of the southern provinces as a national and African center for sustainable innovation, and deploy new smart infrastructures capable of supporting technological transformations in Africa.
The first agreement concerns the launch of the “Igoudar Dajla” green data center project as a state-of-the-art digital platform to be installed on a specific site and powered 100% by renewable energy.
The project will provide both national and international data hosting, storage, and processing capabilities. It is based on a model that integrates advanced cloud infrastructure, digital skills, and natural cooling solutions, significantly reducing energy consumption and enhancing Morocco's competitiveness in the global data industry.
“Igoudar Dajla” also seeks to structure a local value chain around cloud services, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The project will open up new prospects for investment and innovation, while positioning Dakhla as a future low-carbon digital hub in the southern provinces.
Support and investment space
The second agreement concerns the creation of the Jazari Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Energy Transition in Dakhla. This academic and scientific institution is part of a national vision to develop a network of structures specializing in AI, the Internet of Things, and their energy-related applications.
The institute will develop advanced training programs in algorithms, big data, and energy efficiency management. It will also host research and experimentation platforms serving companies and industrial players wishing to integrate AI solutions to optimize their performance.
The Jazari Institute will provide a support space for innovative start-ups and involve students and researchers in applied projects that respond to the region's needs, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, seawater desalination, green hydrogen, and smart interconnection of energy networks.
