Successful celebration of the XII Edition of the Spanish Aviation Journalism Awards
The XII Edition of the Spanish Aviation Journalism Awards "PREMIOS JUAN DE LA CIERVA Y HOCES" took place this Wednesday 23rd at the headquarters of the Madrid Press Association.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished figures from the world of aviation and communication professionals, in a face-to-face event, with all that this means at this time.
It was a night full of emotion, both for the reunion of colleagues and friends, and for the memory and affectionate tribute to Juan de la Cierva y Hoces, who in addition to giving his name to these awards, was present in the memory of all those present throughout the evening.
On this night of celebration for multiple reasons, the traditional Debate on the State of Aviation took place as usual in previous editions, which on this occasion was dedicated to "The sustainability of the air sector", moderated by the director of AviaciónDigital, Enrique Gavilán, and whose speakers were Pedro Galilea Suárez, Operations Strategy and Fuel Efficiency Manager at Iberia, Cristina Bustos, a leading member of the Official College of Aeronautical Engineers COIAE, José Antonio Aznar García, head of the Quality and Environment Division at ENAIRE, and Javier Arán, consultant in air cargo and airports, vice president of Foro MADCargo and author of the book 'How to develop air cargo at airports'.
After the debate, Eduardo Gavilán, editor of AviaciónDigital, warmly thanked the attendees and sponsors ENAIRE, Iberia, Air Nostrum, COIAE, Qualiflight and Soluciona, without whom this ceremony could not have been held.
He also placed special emphasis on the effort made by the members of the Jury, made up of different personalities from the world of communication, when it came to deciding who the lucky winners would be.
He also took the opportunity to highlight the work of associations such as Las Sillas Voladoras, whose aim is to defend and promote the integration of people with different abilities in aeronautical activities.
Afterwards, Ester Apesteguia, editor of Fly News, was in charge of the winners' first steps on stage to receive their prizes.
Javier Ortega Figueiral was the winner in the category of information professionals, which rewards works on aviation published over the course of a year. He received his award from Milagros Gutiérrez and Antonio del Nó, on behalf of Enaire and Air Nostrum.
In the category of journalism students' work, the very young Jorge Pollan was presented with a Dji Mavic series drone and a drone pilot course at the Qualiflight school for his video on sustainability and drones. The award was presented by Pedro Galilea and Carlos Cachavera on behalf of IBERIA and Qualiflight.
The Career Achievement Award went to EFE journalist Alina Dlugoborska for her renowned work on aviation and tourism at the news agency, which was presented by Cristina Bustos, on behalf of COIAE, and Ángel González on behalf of Soluciona.
There were also Special Mentions for Artur Zanón, from the business newspaper Expansión, for his work "Volar sin Contaminar", who received his award from Arsenio Escolar, president of CLABE, and Mikel Alcázar, author of the Podcast "Aerovía", for the special on the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the twin towers, which changed the course of commercial aviation, which was presented by Pedro González Martín, from the International Press Club.

Undoubtedly, an event full of great moments on a night in which this twelfth edition of the Spanish Aviation Journalism Awards was celebrated, with attendees of consecrated trajectory and prestige, and the tribute always in the memory of the incomparable figure of Juan de la Cierva y Hoces.
