Representatives of the different social and business sectors together with ambassadors from various countries attended the reception given by the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the commemoration of its foundation in 1971.
The ambassador pointed out that this important date coincides with the celebration of other events in his country, presided over by Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, such as the "Year of Sustainability" which demonstrates his country's commitment to promote positive changes. He also recalled that the UAE, as host of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP28, shows its environmental commitment and collaboration to protect the planet and seek solutions in this field.
During his speech, the Ambassador stressed the importance of strengthening international relations, and in this regard, he pointed out that the United Arab Emirates belongs to more than 150 organisations worldwide, "which shows its international commitment".
As a member of the Security Council, he emphasised the work of the country he represents in the peaceful resolution of conflicts, the fight against terrorism, gender equality and international collaboration to tackle global conflicts.
Collaboration with Spain
With regard to relations with Spain, "firm and constant", Omar Obaid Mohamed Alhesan Alshamsi stated that they have been collaborating and cooperating for 52 years now, not only in the sphere of politics or economics, but much more, as they have a mutual interest in culture and share a common legacy. An example of this is the exhibition "Andalusia: History and Civilisation" which, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, is being held at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Relations between Emiratis and Spaniards are growing stronger, in fact, he recalled that there are already 10,000 Spaniards residing in the United Arab Emirates, attracted by their culture, the people and the opportunities they have and which enrich the social fabric of their country.
He also spoke of Spain as a trading partner, apart from oil and the increase in economic ties, and of the role that our country represents within the European Union and as a link with Latin America and the Caribbean. The Ambassador alluded to the hundreds of Spanish companies that have established themselves in the UAE with important investments, which have contributed to the development of infrastructures, renewable energies and the tourism industry; as well as the Emirati companies in Spain that have generated economic growth and created employment.
The ambassador concluded his remarks by expressing the hope that cooperation and collaboration between the two countries will be strengthened and lead to greater achievements that will benefit both countries.
