The ‘Kiev National Academic Operetta Theatre’ Company offers a zarzuela concert in Madrid
The National Academic Operetta Theatre Company of Kiev will offer a concert of zarzuela and Ukrainian music on 27 September at the Paco de Lucía Auditorium in Distrito Latina in a Spain/Ukraine cultural exchange sponsored by DT Global and organised with the Madrid City Council and the Ukrainian Embassy.
DT Global, by sponsoring this recital, reaffirms its commitment to Ukraine where it has been working for years in different projects and its support to the population that maintains its daily activity despite the war.
Serhii Pohoreltsev, Ukraine's ambassador to Spain, said of this concert that ‘art plays a crucial role in the life of a nation. Ukraine, with its rich cultural heritage, considers music as a powerful tool that strengthens the spirit, inspires and nourishes hope. This concert will be a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle against the Russian aggressor. It will uniquely intertwine soulful Ukrainian melodies with passionate Spanish rhythms, creating an unforgettable atmosphere and demonstrating that our cultural heritage is an essential part of the vibrant and diverse map of world culture. Events like this not only promote Ukrainian culture, but also foster cultural exchange between Ukraine and Spain, reinforcing our cooperation and strengthening the ties between our peoples’.
Bogdan Strutynskyi, director of the company, is a well-known cultural personality in his country and an active promoter of initiatives related to the cultural reconstruction of Ukrainian society.
Strutynskyi explains that ‘during the war, Ukrainian music has acquired special importance, becoming not only a means of maintaining the fighting spirit, but also a powerful symbol of resistance, unity and national identity. At the same time, Ukrainian music during the war has become a means of communication with the world: through music, Ukrainian artists draw attention to the tragedy of war, in particular the destruction of cities, cultural heritage and civilian lives’.
This company is one of the most traditional institutions in the country's cultural sector that has been active for decades and continues to do so in the current circumstances. ‘Today, theatre takes on a special significance and is experiencing its renaissance. In these difficult times, it is extremely important to support new theatre projects and Ukrainian culture - we have a lot to show and talk about to the whole world! Today, our artists perform at many free concerts in hospitals and military centres. At the same time, we raise funds to help the army and continue to promote our culture. That is our mission today.
The programme consists of zarzuela songs and Ukrainian folk pieces and the vocalists will be Valeria Tulis, Galyna Gregorchak-Odrynska, and Oleksandra Chuvpylo. The pianist will be Olga Savaitan and the Spanish conductor Ignacio García has collaborated in the preparation of the recital.
The collaboration between DT Global and this Ukrainian cultural organisation responds to the mission of this global contractor that works in collaboration with communities, governments and the private sector to offer innovative solutions that transform lives.
According to its vision, the company wants to positively impact 500 million lives by 2045. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, this country has been one of the priorities for the company's projects, which plans to increase its activity in the coming years in this territory.
