World's Most Beautiful Bays Congress

Dakhla will host the 18th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World next November, and hosted the visit of a delegation from the Bureau of the Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World, composed of the elected president, Bruno Bodard, and the vice-president for Africa, Omar Achy.

  1. The importance of the Atlantic coast

The two representatives were received by the President of the Regional Council of Dakhla Oued-Eddahab, Yenja El Khattat, and the Wali of the region, Ali Khalil.

In the presence of the local organising committee, composed of Mohammed Cherif, President of the Dakhla Bay Club, Omar El Alaoui, Vice-President of the Regional Council of Tourism, and Mireille Malbos, representative of the hotel sector, the two leaders drew attention to the environmental issues at stake and reaffirmed the full support and availability of Dakhla to welcome the delegates representing the 44 member bays of this world network and to ensure the best possible conditions for the success of this international meeting.

The World Congress is a forum for dialogue, debate and exchange of experience in the fields of preservation and improvement of the bays, and sustainable and inclusive development.

The Congress, which will be held in Dakhla, will highlight the tourism and economic potential of the region, as well as the efforts made by the public authorities to promote renewable energies and the sustainable management of resources.

World's Most Beautiful Bays Congress

The importance of the Atlantic coast

According to the organisers, this international conclave will have an African dimension, reflecting the vision of the Moroccan kingdom, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, to make Dakhla a key point for the development of Africa and the Atlantic region.

Precisely, the Moroccan kingdom seeks to reinforce the importance of its Atlantic coast and especially the Western Sahara region, developing the area to the maximum and also facilitating access to the Atlantic coast of the Sahel countries in order to promote the economy and trade in the entire area.

The North African country proposes a formula of broad autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, respecting UN resolutions, with a view to resolving the Saharawi conflict and with the aim of promoting the region as much as possible in order to generate wealth and large-scale administrative development. This proposal has received strong international support.

World's Most Beautiful Bays Congress

The Dakhla Congress will reflect the determination of the Association of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World to promote cooperation and the exchange of experiences and practices between the different member bays.

Some 120 delegates from all corners of the globe will have the opportunity to discover the natural and economic advantages as well as the charms of the water sports capital, famous for its white sandy beaches, its dunes and its lagoon. Dakhla is also a popular destination for deep-sea fishing and bird watching.

Dakhla joined the world organisation of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World in 2019 in Toyama (Japan). It is the third Moroccan bay in this network, along with Agadir and Al Hoceima.

World's Most Beautiful Bays Congress

Dakhla obtained the right to organise the World Congress as decided at the last Congress in South Korea by unanimous decision of the member bays of the organisation.

This conclave will be the second to be held in Morocco after the one held in Agadir 20 years ago, organised by the World's Most Beautiful Bays Club, made up of 40 countries.
