Bahrain lands in French football
Bahrain is entering the French game through Paris FC, a club from the French capital currently in Ligue 2. The Bahraini financial muscle is looking to the modest capital team to reach Ligue 1 in a short space of time to compete with the all-powerful Paris Saint-Germain.
"A new strategic partner is coming to Paris FC to support the club's project and its development, but also its ambitions. The managers and shareholders of Paris FC are pleased to announce the arrival of a new reinforcement: the Kingdom of Bahrain," officially announced the club from the French capital after the entry of state money from the Middle Eastern country, which has taken over 20% of the shares of the French entity.
The 2019/20 season was a disappointment for Paris FC, even though it avoided relegation. With this capital increase and the entry of Bahrain, the aim is to boost the project, which still has Pierre Ferracci as its largest shareholder, with 77% of the share package.
In addition to this investment, the Bahraini investment fund is becoming the club's main sponsor, through Explore Bahrain, with the aim in particular of increasing the image and visibility of the Gulf nation and promoting the discovery of this "discreet but ambitious" country.
Paris Saint-Germain is owned by Qatar, with President Nasser al-Khelaifi at the helm of a multi-million dollar project that has taken the French football scene by storm. Now it is Bahrain who has bought part of the other, more modest club in the Parisian capital to take it to the French elite and fight it out with the great Gaulish footballer of recent years.
