Marruecos organizará la Copa de África de fútbol femenino en 2022
The CAF (Confederation of African Football) Executive Committee designated Morocco as the host of the upcoming competition during a meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The meeting to designate the Moroccan country as host of the tournament was attended by Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA.
The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic and should have been held in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Women’s African Cup of Nations took place twice in 1991 and 1995 before turning into a biennial event, in the 1998 African Women's Football Championship.
Nigeria has dominated the competition since its establishment. The West African country has won 11 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles out of 13, which means that it has won almost all the editions except two, which were won by Equatorial Guinea.
On 6 August 2015, the CAF Executive Committee decided to change the name of the tournament from the African Women's Championship to the Africa Women Cup of Nations.
The competition has served as a qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women's World Cup every other tournament since its inception in 1991.
