Prince Moulay El Hassan inaugurates the new football stadium in Rabat
Morocco is making steady progress in the construction of stadiums for the 2030 World Cup, which it is co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. In line with the deadlines set by FIFA, Morocco has completed more than 70% of the minimum required facilities.
In this context, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan attended the inauguration of one of the country's most impressive architectural gems: the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Upon his arrival, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan greeted and thanked the workers who participated in the construction of the new Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex. He was accompanied by the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Saad Berrada; the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa; the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, Mohamed El Yaakoubi; and other prominent figures from the world of sport, such as former footballer Zinedine Zidane.
He was also welcomed by the Director of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, the Regional Director of Health and Social Protection, the Director General of the Société Générale des Travaux du Maroc and the Director General of the National Public Equipment Agency, as well as the project's architects.
With a capacity of more than 68,000 seats, the sports complex features the latest technology in drainage, performance, durability and safety. In addition, it has a hybrid turf that combines the best characteristics of both natural and artificial turf, and a large area reserved for international coverage. It will also have more than six parking areas and more than 5,400 seats for people with reduced mobility, as well as 110 boxes for those who want to enjoy the matches from a different perspective.
Large esplanades have been built in the surrounding area, allowing more than 20,000 people to stay in the vicinity, making the complex one of the largest in the country, pending the completion of the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, whose capacity will place it among the five stadiums in the world with more than 100,000 seats, specifically 115,000.
The renovated stadium is one of the most prestigious sports facilities in Africa, thanks to its modern equipment and international standards, making it a showcase for football that lives up to the expectations of Moroccan fans and the ambitions of national football.
To celebrate this event, the stadium will host the Moroccan national team's match against Niger, as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The stadium will play a leading role in the African Cup of Nations (CAN), kicking off the competition on Sunday 21 December with a match between hosts Morocco and Comoros.
