Spain will play in the final of the Women's World Cup
The players and coaching staff of the Spanish national soccer team continue to make history in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand by reaching the final after defeating Sweden in the semifinals.
Playing in the World Cup final was the dream of professionals who have been able to overcome numerous internal difficulties and put their talent, tactical discipline and, above all, a total and absolute dedication that has allowed them to achieve world success.
During the 90 minutes of the match against the Swedish team, which they had never beaten before, the Spaniards took the initiative and control of the game by applying a strict tactic of closing down possible counter-attacking incursions as the main weapon of the Swedish players.
The struggle in midfield meant that there were no clear chances for either side in the first half. In the second half, Spanish coach Jorge Vilda brought on Salma Paralluelo, who once again, as in the semifinals, was decisive in creating a great deal of danger in the Swedish area and scored the first goal for the Spanish team when she took the ball with her right foot on the penalty spot.
The Spanish joy would not last long because the equalizer would come a few minutes later in the only Spanish defensive lapses resulting from exhaustion after the enormous effort made throughout the match.
However, the Spaniards continued to believe in themselves, in their work, in their abilities and talent, and a minute from the end, in a strategy play from a corner kick, Olga Carmona, with a high left-footed shot, beat the Swedish goalkeeper, one of the best in the World Cup.
In the 7 minutes of stoppage time that followed, Spain closed ranks to avoid another setback and counteract the Swedish push to achieve a historic victory for Spanish women's soccer.
The final will be played next Sunday at 12:00 a.m. Spanish time, and Spain's opponent will come out of the other semi-final between England and Australia.
