Morocco is stepping up its efforts to arrive in the best conditions for the upcoming competitions to be hosted by the country. With the Africa Cup 2025 and the World Cup 2030 on the horizon, the Alawite kingdom is working especially on the Grand Stadium of Tangier or, as it is also known in the country, Ibn Battouta.

A stadium with a capacity for 87,000 spectators

In 14 months, Morocco is expected to inaugurate one of the largest and most modern stadiums on the African continent. The Grand Stadium of Tangier has seen the works speed up in order to have it ready in the shortest possible time. Proof of this has been the start of the construction of the lower stands, which will hold nearly 18,000 spectators.

The removal of the athletics track surrounding the pitch has been completed, which will bring the stands closer to the pitch, creating a better atmosphere inside the stadium. In addition, a total of 75 VIP lounges will be provided, following the current trend and also in line with FIFA's book of specifications, which Morocco are following to the letter.

Three training grounds to accompany Tangier's Grand Stadium

The concept of this stadium goes beyond being a pioneer in the region. Morocco wants to complete the project with a football-breathing ecosystem, which is why it will be surrounded by three training grounds that will turn the site into a virtual sports city of the highest level.

In this way, Rabat is bidding to play a major role in the designation of venues for the 2030 World Cup, which it shares with Spain and Portugal. All dream of hosting the final, for which Spain has a certain advantage thanks to the recently refurbished Santiago Bernabeu and, by the time of the World Cup, the Spotify Camp Nou.

In Morocco, however, they are not ready to throw in the towel and are still hoping to host the final on home soil. It should not be forgotten that, in addition to Tangiers, the Mohamed V Complex in Casablanca, the Mulay Abdallah Sports Complex in Rabat, the Grand Stadium in Agadir, the Grand Stadium in Marrakech and the Sports Complex in Fez will be refurbished with the intention of hosting matches of the most important international football event in the world.
