The Lebanese Football Association suspends football activities

The Lebanese Football Association has decreed the suspension of football competitions in Lebanon indefinitely.
The Lebanese Football Federation announced in an official statement the suspension of all football activities in all Lebanese territories due to the insecurity in the country with the armed clashes between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah militia.
The statement also confirmed the nullity of the contracts sealed by Lebanese clubs for this season and the obligations and rights arising from them, in principle until 30 November.
‘In accordance with the decision issued in Circular No. 42/2024, issued on 24/9/2024, the judge decided to postpone the matches of all tournaments to a date to be determined at a later date,’ the Lebanese Football Association officially communicated. ‘In order to reach a consensus during the meeting between the Lebanese Football Association and the First Division clubs, the Executive Committee of the Lebanese Football Association decided to suspend all football activities in all Lebanese lands, in addition to suspending all contracts, rights and obligations arising therefrom signed by the clubs from 1/10/2024 up to and including 30/11/2024,’ explained the Lebanese federation.

This is due to the insecurity in the country due to armed clashes between Israel and the extremist group Hezbollah that have left several Israeli bombings and ground incursions in the Israel-Lebanon border area. ‘Due to the current security situation in the country, appropriate decisions and measures must be taken,’ the federation said.
The Lebanese football federation had previously announced the postponement of all matches in several local championships to a date to be determined at a later date due to the insecurity in the country.
A large number of players have chosen to leave their clubs in recent days, especially foreign players, due to the difficult circumstances in the country. The suspension of contracts due to this exceptional measure has facilitated the mobility and freedom of players who will not be tied to any contractual link to leave Lebanon and be able to continue their professional football practice in other countries.
All this without causing any financial damage to the Lebanese professional football clubs concerned because, as indicated by the Lebanese Football Association, all contracts have been suspended, including the rights and obligations arising from these agreements signed by the football teams.
This is further negative news for Lebanon, following the armed clashes between Israel and the Hezbollah militia, a Shiite party and armed group closely linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which decided to respond violently against Israeli territory after the heavy military operation carried out over the last year by the Israeli army against the Gaza Strip, which has already claimed tens of thousands of lives.
A military operation on Gazan territory that came as a response by the Israeli state to the terrible terrorist attacks of 7 October 2023 carried out by the Palestinian extremist group Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, which left around 1,200 people dead and 250 kidnapped.
