We are not equal
We are not all the same.
We do not all have the same culture.
We have not all inherited the same customs.
We do not all think in the same way.
We do not all believe in the same God. There are those who believe in none.
We do not all walk in the same direction.
We do not all feel joys and sorrows with the same intensity.
We do not all have the same tastes.
We are not all moulded by the same hands.
We have not all been created with the same patterns.
We have not all developed the same capacities for science and literature.
We do not all look at the sky and get excited when we see the moon or the stars.
We do not all need silence in our lives.
Not all of us feel the need to scream in the middle of the dark night.
Not all of us run to hug our loved ones while whispering "I love you" in their ears.
Not all of us dream of achieving goals with the same characteristics.
Not all of us enjoy looking at the sky through a tiny window or sharing the solitude of a hotel in the distance.
Not all of us have the strength and courage to denounce the injustices of this world, even those that affect us most directly.
Not all of us believe in the certainty that dialogue is the best way to achieve a peace that seems increasingly utopian.
Not all of us enjoy a good conversation with friends over a good wine from La Mancha.
Not all of us see the glass as full or empty, because there are times when you can't even see the glass.
Not all of us develop the same qualities to understand the world and its inhabitants.
We are not all capable of forgetting or of handling rancour without it hurting us, without doing it.
We are not all friendly or unfriendly, nor do we all make pacts with sociability or shyness as it suits us.
Not all of us are capable of leaving things behind and starting again, out of necessity, by decision, by whim, because it is the right thing to do.
Not all of us let a tear or two or as many as it takes when cruelty or a well-played composition brings them to our eyes.
Not all of us sing victory in the face of revenge.
We don't all join hands or lend a hand when it is supposed to be done.
Not all of us tear down bridges, walls or fences. Not all of us build them.
We are not all the same no matter how hard we try, even within a family. And we don't all want to be, because we would become monsters.
The problem is not that we are not equal, but in the denial of the other, in the non-acceptance of those who think, feel, speak, believe, act... differently.
Respecting and not believing oneself to be in possession of the truth could be the key to many things.
Evil, what a word! Evil is another story.
