Electricity companies wonder why Teresa Ribera defends gas and oil companies if they are the only ones with profits falling out of the sky
Sources from the Spanish electricity sector have expressed their "astonishment at the profound ignorance of the problem that Spaniards are suffering on the part of the Minister of Ecological Transition after her statements this morning to RTVE".
"For the Spanish electricity companies, 80% of their customers, the tariff that depends on the companies has not been affected by any price change, paying practically the same, and in some cases less than a year ago," the electricity companies said.
"The tariff that only depends on the government, the regulated tariff, which represents 20% of electricity demand, has seen its price grow exponentially without the minister doing anything".
In statements made on RTVE this morning by the Minister Teresa Ribera, she complained that "the profits of the two Spanish electricity companies are the highest in Europe and I do not think that this is tolerable". In this sense, sources from the electricity sector have responded to the minister that "she confuses the brutal profits of the oil and gas companies with the cuts in the results of the electricity companies in Spain, which says a lot about her knowledge of the sector".
"The data makes the minister look ridiculous. While Repsol increased its profits by 328% compared to the average of the previous three years, or BP increased its profits by 68%, the electricity companies, on the other hand, increased their profits to a lesser extent, in the case of Endesa by 5.5% or just 0.5% in the case of Iberdrola. The minister adds the profits obtained abroad to make demagogy".
Why? -explained the electricity companies, "because the increase in the price of gas is more profit for the sellers of gas, such as the oil companies and the gas companies, and has harmed the buyers of gas, such as the electricity companies".
In this sense, it has been demonstrated and published that gas enters Spain at 50 euros per customs office and is sold in the interior to the electricity companies for 100 euros. That is why it represents profits for the gas companies and losses for the electricity companies.
"But Minister Ribera should know this, given that she has among her advisors in the Ministry advisors of gas companies," said sources from the electricity companies.
The electricity companies are not responsible for the price rises, it is, as has been said, the government and its regulated tariff. "Five months ago the European Commission had to correct the minister".
As has already been published, the electricity companies are not responsible for the protests of the European industry and the main associations against the Spanish Government, following its proposal that involves breaking the principle of unicity of the market, the principle of equality and the principle of free competition, based on State aid that involves actions harmful to competition.
The electricity companies underline their willingness to help those most in need and to encourage the government to reform its electricity tariffs, which is what is harming consumers and not 80% of electricity demand, which are precisely electricity customers, who have not seen price rises in any way.
