Escapism, mythomania, and other less than honorable qualities
The term escapism, although used more frequently in the world of autism, also has its full force and application in other situations in life and fundamentally in certain individuals who, while not apparently autistic, in certain cases may show certain traits common to this disorder. Specifically, it refers to a tendency to flee or walk away without warning from situations that are complicated, driven in turn by communication difficulties, unbalanced sensory processing, or as a way to avoid an unpleasant situation.
On the other hand, mythomania, or pathological lying, is a psychological disorder that is much more common than is believed, involving compulsive lying, creating false stories, exaggerating achievements, or distorting reality to gain attention, taking credit for false or non-existent achievements, avoiding punishment or retaliation, or compensating for insecurities, even when there is no clear reason to lie. The individual may even come to believe their own inventions and cause serious collective and personal relationship problems.
These qualities are inherent and increasingly developed in our illustrious president, who has mastered them so well and in such a way that today he is incapable of carrying out normal activities outside of such standards or vices of behavior.
To complete the cocktail of deplorable qualities, we must add the growing habit of looking the other way, even if the issue or problem is important, concerns him, or directly affects him or his immediate family or work environment; situations arising from his attachment or need to surround himself with sycophants and admirers and his inability to do so with people who are clean and sane, who do not lie to him or take advantage of him and his ‘power’ with or without his full knowledge, and his unorthodox tendency to exaggerate the speck in someone else's eye when he has a beam of enormous proportions in his own.
These behavioral vices, which tend to increase when he does not impose a remedy on himself or no one around him makes him see the obvious reality of his behavior, are very typical and customary in egomaniacs, satraps, despots, and autocrats of all stripes and types.
Their reactions in serious moments, of obvious ridicule or danger, reach many decibels regardless of the place or time in which they occur, as happened in the famous altercation with His Majesty the King during the Dana, a year ago, after his disgraceful withdrawal from Paiporta in the face of public protest and outrage after losing more than two hundred fellow citizens, and he had a great deal, if not the main responsibility, for the fact that this could have been avoided if the necessary and already budgeted works to channel the dangerous aquifers in the area had been carried out.
His tendency to make decisions that are ill-suited to Spain and his traditional single-issue or regional policies, or to make a scene and contradict the rest of the attendees at most of the multinational meetings he attends, even though he has nothing of substance to contribute, are causing him significant national discredit and completely ruining what little personal reputation he had left.
We do not have to go back very far in time to find multiple examples of this, such as the NATO agreements on arms spending, the recent climate meeting (COP) contradicting the main CO2 producers, flying the flag for Palestine against Israel and all the actions derived from that, and finally two events that occurred on the same day, yesterday, which, although unrelated, are nonetheless significant or of some importance: the bilateral meeting with Morocco, held in absolute secrecy, as is customary with its North African neighbor, and the stubborn decision not to attend the Eurovision Song Contest, which, given its traditional results, has never been an event of real relevance or importance, but has always been something that has aroused the interest of Spaniards.
We will see if this stance, contrary to participating in events in which Israel does participate, will not be the cause and effect of Spain, with him at the helm, being left out of any world events such as soccer at the Olympics.
This, on the other hand, is already beginning to happen because in the last year, due to its stubbornness and obstinacy, Spain has found itself increasingly left out (it has not received invitations) of many important decision-making forums, such as most of those relating to Gaza or Ukraine and almost all of those led by the US.
Sánchez's personal qualities are leading him to align his positions and support with certain countries in Central and South America, whose policies are not the most orthodox and many of which are totally contrary to what we in the West understand as a full democracy.
But above all, the mythomania mentioned at the beginning of this analysis is dragging him, with increasing force, to flout the democratic rules and precepts that a country integrated into the EU must abide by.
As he does not have sufficient and secure majorities at all times to pass the necessary laws, he blatantly abuses the Royal Decree to ‘govern’; he has literally taken over most of the national institutions, which he manages as he pleases, and what is even more serious, he has not been able to pass a single annual national budget during this last legislative term, which is already halfway through. Not only are these budgets required by the Constitution itself, but they are also absolutely necessary for distributing wealth according to income and needs. He has also paralyzed laws that are absolutely necessary due to their urgency and social nature.
But what strikes me most, a man of arms who has dedicated more than forty years to the real defense and good name of Spain both inside and outside its borders, what I find most abominable and despicable is his frivolity, carelessness, and bad faith with which he negotiates day after day with Spain's greatest and most execrable internal enemies in order to guarantee his permanence in a chair in the Moncloa that allows him to appear and believe that he is in charge of something, when the harsh and sad reality is that he is just a puppet capable of genuflecting before them as many times as necessary and that those who really rule are the wretched people with whom he makes deals.
