The world is shaking in its boots

We have had enough of seeing, hearing and listening to our national leaders and international associations, organisations and alliances proclaiming to the winds - to the sound of trumpets of Jericho, drums as loud as any of the famous tamborradas in Spain and cymbals as big as flying cymbals - that the International Community would not allow Putin to invade a free and democratic country and that, if he dared to break and trample on its freedoms, the measures against him and Russia would be such that he would regret having done so, reminding us of the times of the war against Iraq.

Face-to-face meetings, parliamentary hearings, as well as individual and collective threats about the measures to be adopted, have been taking place at all levels; so much so that there has not been a single loophole through which to escape the righteous stick that was to fall on Putin's head, his most direct advisors and on the dumbed-down Russian nation that, accustomed to it, follows him without so much as a whimper.

But when it comes down to it, the sad reality is so pitiful, shameful, useless or futile and banal, that it is even embarrassing to talk about it and show it to others. Militarily, as planned, we cornered ourselves behind the NATO screen to say that we could not legally intervene because it was not NATO territory; forgetting that neither was Serbia or Kosovo and we entered Kosovo in force and bombed that territory and even Belgrade, without regard or contemplation.

Yesterday it was truly frightening to hear that Uncle Sam approved sending more missile-based weapons and other effective means to Ukraine, when in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities rifles were being handed out in the street to anyone passing by on the pavement and people were being asked to make their own Molotov cocktails. What good will such weapons be if, when they arrive, if they arrive, there will be nothing to defend?

Now that the Ukrainian military structure has been mercilessly and mercilessly destroyed and destroyed without the capacity to defend itself against such targeted and accurate attacks, it seems to be the time when we think that the five thousand individual combat helmets, which were sent to them by the great Germany, are not enough to improve their defensive capacity.

The EU soon raised the White Flag because if NATO would not intervene, the Union would not, all the more reason not to intervene, while at the same time claiming that it does not have sufficient combat capability despite years of planning and trying to achieve something resembling a European Army that would do more than partially carry out short or small peacekeeping missions.

Biden, running on and on, talking to the media all day and taking off his mask in public, so that you could see his very angry face; but sending troops to fight for and in Ukraine, nothing at all.

The Americans are no longer in favour of supporting democracies under attack or in danger, and there is no interest in getting involved with a sleeping lion that they have been ignoring for many years and which has recently woken up hungry and eager to upset the balance and certain delusions of several of its neighbours, who want to play the grown-ups and go off their tames. It is quite clear that Putin is not going to allow this for the sake of his own pride and to maintain his own security.

Well, if militarily we could do nothing except leave Ukraine to its own damn fate, at least economically, there were and are many tools that can be used, or at least that is what some of us deluded people thought.

There was talk of all kinds of measures, to be applied progressively depending on the steps taken by the new Russian Tsar, and it turns out that despite having taken all of them and many more than expected, yesterday when Russian troops were besieging the gates of Kiev, the stock markets around the world, including Russia's, rose several notches and even recovered the losses of the previous day.

To make matters worse, on the same day, Russia sold more oil than any other before the conflict, and several European countries, most of the largest ones in fact, wrinkled their navels and have not allowed Russian banks to be disconnected from their own intranet network, Swift; the "economic nuclear weapon" that no one really dares to activate against Russia.

Russia can continue to sell us everything and we will pay them in cash, even if we deceive ourselves by saying that they cannot buy technology from us. We all know that this will not be true, because the economy is the economy, money is money, and the votes of the calm citizen feed the egos, warm the kidneys and multiply the perks of those whippersnappers who pretend to govern us.

Only the world of sport, clean and clear as usual, announces that many prizes, tournaments and sponsorships are cutting their ties with Russia and everything that smells of Russia.

At this stage of the game, I don't know whether this is the result of overheating, hasty decisions or falling into the Sadducean trap that the world's coercive and punitive measures were serious. We shall soon see whether they will pull back their sails, or stand their ground.

For the rest, enough of such individual and collective misery, of such hypocrisy, and of deceiving both ourselves and strangers with such shamelessness and impunity.

Since the pandemic has shown that videoconferences are much more effective, quicker and easier to organise, I think the time has come for our leaders to leave their presidential planes and their numerous entourages parked at home, because so many vain trips to Brussels only serve to comfort and support each other in their immense weakness, spending a lot of public money and infecting the airspace with the pollution and gases that we want to eradicate.

None of them have any shame, either bullish or otherwise, they are tricksters and tricksters who fill our heads with birds and false dignity, like the foreign minister, who yesterday went around every possible media outlet talking about Spain's position and false role in a series of drastic measures which he knew would not be implemented.

I fear that the beast has fully awakened, that it has clearly seen the great international weakness and hypocrisy and that what has been done so far, however much it has been criticised and threatened, will soon be consummated without further ado. There will be no reaction that is worthwhile or truly shocks him and that other scapegoats, already posted on his ambition board, will soon fall into his nets.

We will see what happens when they get all the Ukrainian natural resources that we now buy from them and will soon pass under their control.

The worst, as always, is for the weakest; the Ukrainians and Ukraine itself; so I would not be surprised if, as a consequence of this shameful international action, more Ukrainians will despise everything that comes from the EU, NATO or any other international organisation and embrace Russia because, at least deceiving them, is not in their interests.

Finally, and I risk asserting this because I know I am right, this Gila war or PlayStation conflict for everyone but Ukraine and its people, will be used as an excuse by most international economic leaders and organisations to cover up their inability to make their forecasts or to pull us out of the deep pit we are in because of a major global economic crisis, which they did not see coming or did not want to see coming.
