Iran: Wave of brutal executions continues in desperate attempt to deal with revolts

The wave of brutal and criminal executions, which began last week, continues to plague Iran. On Monday 8 May, the religious fascist regime executed two inmates of Arak prison named Yousef Mehrdad and Sadrullah Fazeli, who had been imprisoned since 2020, for allegedly insulting the Prophet of Islam. This action echoes the order to kill Salman Rushdie given by Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, which was confirmed by Ali Khamenei after his death, with a reward for his execution.

Today, Ali Khamenei is intensifying repressive measures to quell the revolt by speeding up the execution machine. This includes falsely accusing women of not wearing the hijab or of veiling themselves inappropriately.

It has been confirmed that on Friday 5 May, two more prisoners, Mehdi Taymuri and Dawood Mahmoudyar, were hanged in Urmia prison. This brings the total number of executions between 28 April and 5 May to 46. The Iranian opposition NCRI statement of 6 May reported 44 executions during this period.

In addition, two Baloch prisoners, Majid Diyargar and Mahmoud Sabetzadeh, were allegedly poisoned to death in Gonbadkavus prison on Saturday 29 April, while six other prisoners were also poisoned.

On Saturday, 6 May, regime agents transferred six political prisoners to Sheyban Prison in Ahvaz for execution, and nine prisoners were sentenced to death in Gohardasht Prison in Karaj. On Sunday 7 May, another Baloch prisoner was transferred to an isolation cell in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz for execution.

The Iranian Resistance condemns the execution of the prisoners in Arak and calls on the United Nations and member states to denounce the new wave of executions and to take immediate action to stop this barbarism and save the lives of the prisoners sentenced to death. A regime based on torture, executions, terrorism and warmongering must be rejected by the world community and its leaders must be brought to justice for four decades of genocide and crimes against humanity.
