Starting this December 2023, poor families will receive direct social assistance that differs from one category to another according to their circumstances, ranging from 500 Moroccan dirhams to more than 1,000 dirhams.

This direct social aid programme is part of the royal social protection project launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to improve the purchasing power of poor families and to ensure their dignity and well-being.

This project aims to help poor families, the elderly and the disabled, and aims to improve social and human development indicators.

In application of King Mohammed VI's high guidelines, the government has approved two projects to implement this royal project and also to create a national agency for social support.

Sixty per cent of families not registered with the social security system will benefit from this programme.

To implement this project, the government has earmarked 26 billion dirhams in 2024, rising to 29 billion dirhams in 2026.

In addition to this aid, birth grants will be paid, ranging from 1,000 DH to 2,000 DH for newborns.

The disabled, the elderly and families in precarious situations are the ones who will benefit from this sensible and logical royal project.

In addition to this, we should not forget the project to generalise health coverage by the end of 2022 for all Moroccans, and the monthly grants of 2,500 DH for families affected by the earthquake in Morocco, as well as aid ranging from 70,000 to 140,000 DH for the reconstruction of houses totally or partially collapsed by the earthquake.

It should be noted that behind every social initiative there is a member of the royal family: Prince Rachid is president of the Moroccan Association of Support and Help for People Affected by Down Syndrome, Princess Mariam is more concerned with the rights of women and children, Princess Hasnae is president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, and Princess Asmae is concerned with families in precarious situations or with disabilities and is president of the Lalla Asmae Foundation for Deaf Children and Young People.
