Bitter liberation

The fortunate Israeli families who have been able to recover their daughters, sisters and granddaughters have not forgotten the many families who have not been so lucky.
Many of the hostages kidnapped on 7 October 2023 in the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel have lost their lives, just as more than 1,200 people were brutally and cruelly murdered in their homes, in their workplaces or at the music festival.
The feeling is very bittersweet, a bitter liberation. The satisfaction that these young women have regained their freedom and returned to their families is understandable, but the price paid to make this liberation possible cannot be forgotten.
We must also take stock of the thousands of Palestinian deaths, of the families who have lost their loved ones and their homes, and have suffered for months in very precarious living conditions.
At this moment in time, when both sides have suffered at the hands of unscrupulous fanatics, we must remember that the main responsibility for this whole situation lies with those who organised, financed and ordered the terrorist attack against Israel because, in addition to causing the death of many Israelis, they were well aware that they would provoke a very harsh response from Israel with the aim of blowing up the stability that was being consolidated with the implementation of the Abraham Accords and prevent the formal accession of Saudi Arabia from being the final straw.
Understanding and coexistence between Arabs and Israelis is possible and necessary, despite the fact that radical Shiites, especially in Iran, are not at all interested in it.
When taking stock, it is necessary to analyse whether Israel has neutralised the terrorists of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza, as it intended, as well as in the West Bank; Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, the militias in Syria and Iraq, in short, Iran and its influence in the region and its capacity to threaten peace and stability in the region.
There is still a long way to go to determine how power is controlled in Gaza and the West Bank, because Donald Trump's proposal to evict one and a half million Palestinians from the Strip to Egypt and Jordan is not too realistic, for the moment.
