European Tourism

The recovery of the Spanish economy depends largely on the revival of tourism, both national and, above all, European and international. In the case of the European Union, work is being done on the creation of health safety corridors to allow the mobility of people with the greatest possible guarantees of safety. It makes no sense that, for the supposed reason of health prevention and to avoid a new outbreak of coronavirus by people coming from other countries, a 14-day quarantine should be introduced for all those who come to Spain. It is sad, but not surprising, that the reaction of the French Government was to counteract with the same measure, a decision which caused some stupor and surprise within the European Union. Above all, because in Brussels those responsible for foreign affairs, including the spanish Arancha González Laya, were looking for an agreement that would make these security corridors possible in order to relaunch European tourism, in principle, between countries as essential to Spanish industry as the United Kingdom, Germany and France. Apparently, the minister was not aware of her government's decision.
The Executive, presided over by Pedro Sánchez, has made various assessments of the value of tourism for Spain and its economy and job creation. Firstly, the scarce seasonal value which the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, attributes to it, to which the President himself had to make his usual television appearance with an appropriate estimate of 12.3% of GDP and some three million jobs. However, at the heart of the terrible situation we are suffering, an incredible struggle is taking place within the Spanish Government itself over the decision to be taken on the various funds that the European Union is making available to help the countries most affected by the crisis. And from the government itself with its European partners on the conditions of this aid. The cursed word that Pedro Sánchez is fleeing from, as Mariano Rajoy successfully fled from at the time, is rescue.
And on this occasion, the European Union is not planning to send the dreaded and insensitive men in black who only know how to square numbers without taking into account their impact on people. The demand of the partners who are going to lend the money is that it should be spent on what is really needed and used for party politics with electioneering objectives. That is why the ambition of the Sánchez government is to create the corona bonds which, in principle, do not have the control and auditing requirements of the other funds prepared by the European Union to deal with the very serious economic crisis suffered by countries such as Spain and Italy. The need for Spain to have liquidity is evident because there is a delay in the collection of the benefits provided by the ERTES, among other urgent needs of small and medium enterprises, self-employed and entrepreneurs. In this struggle, European tourism should not be manipulated.
