Trumpism in Europe
It is nothing more than a reflection of the weariness of a large part of the public at the domination of certain minorities over the majority. We are talking about radical environmentalism, extreme feminism, gender identity, issues that are undoubtedly relevant, but which cannot be permanently conditioning the agenda of the majority and, above all, with populist measures to win votes that erode general interests and coexistence more and more each day.
The daisy has been plucked and we are all trying to understand why Donald Trump has won the presidential elections in the United States by such a wide margin in the so-called swing states, where the polls predicted a close race.
We can focus our attention on the Americans who have opted for the candidate who offered greater certainty and clearer ideas on the most sensitive issues of people's daily lives. And we are not only referring to rural or industrial areas, but also in big cities a very peculiar candidate has been elected, an authoritarian populist who is not the least bit ashamed to lie when it comes to destroying the enemy.
Yes, yes, enemy. So much for polarisation and tension in the politics of the world's largest democracy. It is not about adversaries or political opponents with other ideas and proposals that could be an alternative to the impositions of a Trump who had already warned that he would accuse the administration of President Joe Biden of theft and fraud if he was not the big winner.
In this area, the most blatant insults towards his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, have been the shameful tonic. The slightest respect has disappeared. His eccentricities rose in tone and support in the polls as he emerged from the courtroom with a few convictions while managing to defer embarrassing cases. And it was no longer surprising when he said he didn't mind journalists being shot at.
Trade protectionism, rejection of multilateralism, questioning NATO, war on China and a supposedly good relationship with Putin. These are some of Trump's key points, not forgetting his support for Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And just in case he needed it, someone is busy trying to assassinate him. Against this quick summary of the serious drawbacks to being president in any minimally coherent country, we find a clear commitment to the family economy, lowering the cost of the shopping basket, securing jobs in industrial companies, and the final straw has been security in the face of immigration. A great paradox, some established Latinos vote for him and close the door to their compatriots.
Trump's histrionic message has been effective and direct in the face of the pro-green campaign of a Kamala Harris who got on a high-speed train and was more concerned with what is called the ‘woke’ generation, the modern-day hipsters of trans people, other minorities and abortion installed in the upper classes of the media, technology, film and series production companies, among other privileged classes, than offering clear and convincing measures for the ordinary citizen of any state.
Not to mention the radical environmentalist imposition of an agenda that is proving to have counterproductive effects. We Spaniards in Valencia have suffered from this. The mountains cannot be touched because everything must be preserved. Then come the fires and the floods with water laden with environmental shrapnel. We are witnessing the radical ideological imposition of a few minorities and it turns out that in the United States a presumably unpresentable person has been backed by a large majority that is proving to be fed up with so much supposedly absurd modernity that only benefits a few who are ceasing to be influential.
And, as they say, the United States anticipates what happens next in Europe. When it sneezes, we catch a cold. And the Trump phenomenon is being exported outside the United States. The next occupant of the White House is already working on it with the Heritage Foundation. We are experiencing it in many European countries where the reaction to the postulates of the minorities of the extreme left is causing the rise of the extreme right because the traditional parties do not know how, nor do they want to maintain basic principles and values, and thousands of citizens are betting on those who propose radical solutions and raise their voices more and manipulate social networks.
