World Hegemony of COVID-19

We all hope that one day we will at least meet the person responsible for the creation and dispersal of the damned COVID-19, if we believe in the conspiracy theories promoted by Donald Trump, along with the British and French governments, which are accusing China of the origin of the coronavirus. If there were effective international justice, as in the case of Bosnia, which indeed has acted with fair force, those responsible for it should pay for the rest of their lives, as they deserve.

We have already mentioned the two great superpowers disputing for years the world' s hegemony, undoubtedly held at present by the COVID-19. Trump accuses the Chinese, and the Chinese accuse the Americans. The Russians, meanwhile, are releasing videos on social networks involving Bill Gates in shady virus vaccine deals. We can certainly speak of confrontation, struggle or war for hegemony in the economy, in trade, in world power with COVID-19 as a lethal weapon. A few years ago, during the economic crisis of 2008, the lethal weapon was financial, with an enormous impact on employment throughout the world.

On this occasion, the great tragedy we are suffering is the lonely and distressing death of our elders in the face of the helplessness of their families and friends with shocking figures worldwide - more than 203,000 deaths in the world, including more than 23,000 in Spain. These figures will have increased unfortunately by the time you read this article, but we should not assume this is inevitable. Those who have died have names and surnames, a family, a history, a life cut short, a tragedy that influences the health, the moral hygiene of a society and a democracy, which is measured, among other aspects, in terms of how the elderly are cared for and treated, a whole generation that, in the case of Spain, contributed with enormous effort and sacrifice to consolidating democracy and overcoming the dictatorship and the serious economic crisis of the 1970s and 1980s. They who made it possible for many of their children to go to university and contribute to the progress and development of Spain with the notable support of the European Union. There will be time and opportunity to demand full responsibility.

In the international sphere, Chinese economy has contracted by 7%, never seen before, but already on the road to recovery in a very advantageous position at international level. In the United States, 22 million people have been unemployed in the last 30 days. Something that is beginning to worry Donald Trump, especially in view of his ambition to be re-elected as president of the United States next November. The controversial American president won the elections promising employment for all and his protectionist and populist policy have so far managed to maintain good economic and employment figures.

With the permission of the COVID-19, we will now see who exercises hegemony in a world that will be very different from the one we know. For a couple of years at least.  Many questions remain about the unacceptable deadly dimension of the pandemic and the pain of the families affected, which is everyone's pain, the millions of people who have been left without jobs and how long it will take them to recover, as well as the large, medium and small businesses and self-employed people who have had to close down and, furthermore, the change in habits in human and social relations, in travel or tourism. A huge tragedy with a virus conditioning everyone.
