The real vision of the Moroccan fight against terrorism

During these operations, an Islamic State flag and extremist manuscripts were discovered. These DGST actions demonstrate remarkable strategic and operational effectiveness, the result of exceptional expertise and the use of tools developed and configured according to the strategic needs of each Moroccan region. 

At the same time, under the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, God help him, Morocco is developing effective African cooperation and a substantial multilateral partnership in the fight against terrorism. It should be recalled that the Marrakech platform symbolises the success of the fight against the proliferation of terrorism, involving a large number of international actors. 

In this respect, the statements of Mr Vladimir Voronkov, First Under-Secretary of the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism (@UN_OCT), are particularly eloquent: ‘I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for its continued support to the UN Counter-Terrorism Office and for hosting today's meeting in the historic city of Fez.’ 

Today, thanks to the real vision, Morocco continuously demonstrates that it is a leader in the fight against terrorism, employing a multidisciplinary strategy ranging from South-South collaboration to detecting anomalies of terrorist groups through artificial intelligence (AI), not forgetting the crucial axis of awareness and education. 

That said, it is clear that terrorism has been around for centuries, but the recent democratisation of technology and the emergence of AI, blockchains and cryptocurrencies have given terrorist organisations unprecedented power. 

Groups such as al-Qaeda can now coordinate cells scattered across fifty or sixty countries around the world, giving them unprecedented agility and capability. 

However, with an African coalition and an exchange of operational experience, following in the footsteps of the Marrakech platform, the Kingdom of Morocco will be able to secure the region and contribute to the achievement of sustainable regional security development.
