Sahrawi Movement for Peace

Tindouf

Last Wednesday, April 22, a statement was issued informing about the creation of the Sahrawi Movement for Peace. This movement, supported in principle by a hundred Sahrawi politicians, some from positions held in the Polisario Front, others are descendants of Sahrawi notables who held positions in the former General Assembly of the Government of the Sahara or "Yemaa" at the time of the Spanish colonial presence, and many other dissident Sahrawis inside and outside the refugee camps of Tindouf, who in their attempt to carry out demonstrations and acts contrary to the official guidelines have suffered reprisals and have suffered the consequences of the loss of freedom.

The creation of this Sahrawi Movement for Peace (MSP), is clear that it has arisen from a fed up with the dictatorial supremacy of the Polisario Front, which has not changed at all since its creation, in other words, its "political project" is exhausted and this is how its components have considered it.

In the last and recent XV Congress last December, it became evident that "the political system or the movement that has directed the destinies of our people in the last 50 years is exhausted and without capacity for renewal" and the worst thing is that there are no new ideas or willingness to get out of the impasse.

In a simple analysis in the creation of this movement (MSP), we can consider how part of the pronouncements that have been shaping the instability of the Front that, without its own criteria, apart from obeying the orders of Algeria, has maintained the dictatorial authority in the camps of Tinduf.

"Jat Achahid" (the line or path of the martyr) founded in 2004, presided by Mahayub Salek, one of the first followers of El Ouali Mustafa Siyed, founder and first secretary general of the Polisario Front, who declared "The elite of the Polisario are very corrupt and those who work with them know it". The movement of Oulad Daud's faction, the front of "dissident artists" and others demanding democracy and justice, free elections and investigations into the fate of the disappeared.

The creation in 2018 of the 'Youth of March 5th'

The Sahrawi Initiative for Change (SIC), promoted by former ministers of the Polisario Front, whose spokesman Hach Ahmed Bericala, stated "we believe that a critical internal current is indispensable to correct the democratic deficit that the Polisario has been dragging on since its foundation almost half a century ago. It is a historical necessity if one considers the accumulation of errors and mistakes, some of which are unforgivable, incurred by prominent members of the Polisario leadership". It is a leadership that for decades has found in the war and the exceptionality of the situation excuses to shelter itself from the winds of change that have lashed from all points of the compass. They have become hostages of a political system and an outdated discourse that has made them lose credibility and unrepeatable opportunities. They are trying to resist even the unstoppable force of the laws of biology

This new Saharawi Movement for Peace (MSP), invited "all Sahrawis to join the new political organization and to participate without exclusion or discrimination of any kind by taking up this new challenge in the struggle for freedom, well-being and dignity". In his project, he advocated the introduction into Saharawi society of a culture of political diversity and multiparty politics, and opted for the peaceful path in seeking solutions to the problem of Western Sahara. So far, why is the Saharan conflict continuing? Because there is no will to negotiate on the part of one of the parties, the Polisario, which depends on the opinions of Algeria, and consequently its leaders maintain their share of power indefinitely

With this situation, this emerging movement, which proclaims as the culmination the respect for the principles of equality, coexistence and respect that must prevail in the principles of democratic values. After so much abuse of power after its dictatorial government this could be the beginning of the end of the Polisario Front
