Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Investment Centre

The results known a few days ago of the turnover achieved by Tangier Med, as one of the main ports of the Mediterranean, show that understanding is absolutely necessary to channel the maritime traffic of thousands of ships and millions of containers that represent a relevant percentage of world trade and give this region of the world, the Mare Nostrum, the transcendence it has always had in the economic and commercial sphere, and also in the historical and strategic field.

More than 8.6 million containers in 2023, 13.4% more than in 2022, an activity equivalent to 95% of the nominal port capacity achieved four years in advance. If we look at other data such as the handling of 578,446 vehicles, we are looking at a growth of 21% compared to the previous year. The number of passengers handled rose to more than 2.7 million people, an increase of 30%, while in the case of goods handled, the figure was 122 million, an increase of 13.6%.

The Moroccan authorities have worked hard to improve the facilities for increasing foreign investment in the different productive sectors in Morocco, where the logistics sector is key to supporting industrial activities, automotive, textiles, renewable energies and tourism, among others.

Public-private investment is an essential feature when taking stock of the 26 industrial and business parks totalling more than 5,000 hectares for future projects such as the special business zone of Fnideq or the great Mohammed VI Tanger-Tech smart city.

The modernising impulse that King Mohammed VI's initiatives represent for Morocco is key to facing and overcoming the challenges of the present and looking towards a much better future.
