Mar Ahumada appointed new managing director of the Three Cultures Foundation
The Board of Trustees of the Three Cultures Foundation, chaired by the Regional Minister of Culture and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Patricia de Pozo, has chosen Mar Ahumada Sánchez as the new managing director of this cultural institution, which is attached to the Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
The Regional Government of Andalusia officially announced this appointment, which comes after the resignation of the previous director, Lorena García de Izarra, who a few days ago communicated her desire to embark on a new professional adventure to the co-presidents of the Foundation, the advisor to His Majesty the King of Morocco, André Azoulay, and the Regional Minister of Culture and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Patricia del Pozo, as well as the Foundation's team. All this after taking up the post in August 2023, replacing Concha de Santa Ana at the time, and after an important career at the helm of the institution.
As was the case with García de Izarra, Mar Ahumada takes over the management of Three Cultures after having been a member of its Board of Trustees for some time, specifically during her time as Director General of Migration Policy Coordination for the Regional Government of Andalusia, a position she held between February 2019 and June 2022.
The new director is closely familiar with the aims of the Three Cultures Foundation, its strategic lines and its areas of work, as well as showing a special sensitivity towards all areas related to cultural diversity and social inclusion. Ahumada's arrival coincides with UNESCO's recent recognition of the Three Cultures Foundation as a Category 2 Reference Centre. She also faces significant challenges in 2026, such as the comprehensive renovation of the Foundation's headquarters, which was the Moroccan Pavilion at the 1992 Seville Universal Exposition and is now the Hassan II Pavilion.
In this regard, Mar Ahumada thanked the members of the Board of Trustees, especially the two co-presidents, for the trust placed in her to lead an institution that is a benchmark in cultural diplomacy in the Mediterranean region.
Ahumada, born in 1976, has a degree in Law from the University of Seville and has practised law for more than 15 years, providing legal advice and assistance in civil, labour and contentious-administrative matters, as well as belonging to the free legal aid service.
She holds a Master's degree in Banking Management and Financial Markets from the Cajasol Business School. From 2015 until her appointment to the Andalusian Government in 2019, she served as legal advisor to the Ciudadanos parliamentary group in Andalusia. After leaving her position as Director General of Migration Policy Coordination, in September 2023 she was appointed Secretary General of the Audiovisual Council of Andalusia. Until this appointment at the Three Cultures Foundation, she was Area Director in the Office of the Regional Minister of Health, Presidency and Emergencies.
