The city of Rabat will host the cultural event Once Upon a Time in Al-Andalus

Three Cultures Foundation
For three days, the headquarters of the Al Mada Foundation will become a space for meeting and dialogue

From 24 to 26 April, the city of Rabat will host the cultural event Once upon a time in al-Andalus, an initiative organised by the Passado Vivo Association and the Al Mada Foundation, in collaboration with the Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean and the support of the Spanish and Portuguese Embassies in Morocco.

For three days, the headquarters of the Al Mada Foundation will become a space for meeting and dialogue on the rich Andalusian legacy and the historical, cultural, and artistic exchanges that have united the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco over the centuries.

Within this framework, the Three Cultures Foundation is joining the initiative with two specific proposals. On the one hand, an Arabic calligraphy workshop will allow participants to delve into one of the main pillars of classical Islamic art, learning the basics of an aesthetic tradition that transcends language and becomes spiritual and artistic expression.

On the other hand, the Foundation will present a lecture entitled The Art of Calligraphy in Medieval Islam, given by researcher Wallada Touriño Iglesias, which will take place on Thursday 24 April at 4.15 p.m.

The speaker will address the role of calligraphy as a vehicle for knowledge, beauty, and spirituality in the context of medieval Islam, with special attention to its development in al-Andalus.
