The Three Cultures Foundation presents the exhibition 'Liquid Frontier': Visual Memory Andalusia-Morocco
The Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean, in collaboration with the Andalusian Centre of Photography (CAF), presents the exhibition Liquid Border. Visual Memory Andalusia-Morocco, which is part of an extensive cultural cooperation project in which the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH), the Regional Directorate of Culture Tangier - Tetouan of the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Andalusian Centre of Photography (CAF) and the European Union, through the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Spain - External Borders (POCTEFEX) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) have participated.
The collaboration of all the entities involved in this project has made it possible to make available to managers, researchers and the general public a documentary collection of extraordinary historical and anthropological value.
This exhibition is made up of a selection of historical photographic collections deposited in the General Library and Archives of Tetouan in Morocco, which are a faithful reflection of the social and political life of the country between 1860 and 1956.
This photographic collection contains more than 45,000 photographs taken during this period, including images of landscapes, people, trades, public works, cities and, in general, all the significant events of the social, cultural and political life of the time in Morocco. A photographic collection that places special emphasis on the area of the Spanish Protectorate and, more specifically, on Tetouan and its surroundings.
Liquid Border' is made up of 128 photographs from these collections of the General Library and Archives of Tetouan, and is structured into three main sections which deal with themes such as 'Politics and administration', 'Architecture and urban planning' and 'Society and customs'.
The main theme of the exhibition 'Liquid Frontier' is based on the work of the many photographers who went to Morocco as press correspondents between 1913 and 1939, and who made the territory and Moroccan life known through their images and chronicles.
Many of these photographers set up their own studios and generated a photographic production of incalculable value, as they portrayed the population established in the territory, showing the society of the time, framed in what we could call 'family photography'.
The inauguration of this exhibition will take place on 25 September as part of the opening of the summer course 'El Ensanche español de Tetuán: patrimonio común, patrimonio de la humanidad', organised by the Three Cultures Foundation in collaboration with the International University of Andalusia, the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage and the University of Seville.
