In January 2024, Boluda Corporación Marítima, through its business division Boluda Towage, has started operating in the container terminal of the Egyptian port of Abu Qir with three new powerful tugs: VB AMON, VB HORUS and VB AHMOSE.

Their first assistance in Egypt took place with the container ship ZHONG GU JI LIN where they escorted the vessel to its berth. A few days later, on 12 January, the tugboats received and assisted the second container ship, MAO GANG SHANG SHANG HAI, in the port.

Vicente Boluda Fos, president of Boluda Corporación Marítima has declared that: "Abu Qir is a port in full movement, and the port developments fit perfectly with the objectives of Boluda Towage. The presence in Egypt and the Middle East is a further step towards strengthening and expanding our global activities. We are proud to be part of this project and to have been able to respond well to the requirements of the port authority and the container terminal."

"We would like to thank the Egyptian Navy and Hutchison Ports for all the support they have given us during the launch of our operations."

Towage operations in Egypt will be supported by a dedicated shore team at the Abu Qir base.

At the start of the towage services, Boluda Towage will operate a fleet of three powerful tugs (VB AMON, VB HORUS and VB AHMOSE) with 75 tonnes of fixed point draft.

The vessels incorporate a variety of key functions, such as towing, pushing, mooring, escort, fire-fighting operations and terminal support work. Boluda has once again entrusted the companies Sanmar and Med Marine Shipyards with the manufacture of these vessels.
