The CEO of CaixaBank, Gonzalo Gortázar, reaffirmed CaixaBank's commitment to Morocco during his visit to Casablanca (Morocco) to mark the 15th anniversary of the bank's presence in the North African country.

During his visit, Gortázar met with the Moroccan Minister of Finance, Nadia Fettah-Alaoui, representatives of companies and financial institutions present in Morocco and met with the team at CaixaBank's office in Casablanca.

CaixaBank has had a banking licence in Morocco since 2009 and has three branches: Casablanca (2009), Tangiers (2014) and Agadir (2017), which offer foreign trade, business banking and corporate banking services to Spanish companies already established in the country or with the prospect of entering the Moroccan market, as well as to large Moroccan companies and multinationals.

CaixaBank has become the bank of reference for Spanish companies with a presence in Morocco. According to ICEX data, around 60% of the 800 Spanish companies operating in the country are customers of the CaixaBank branch in Morocco.

Gonzalo Gortázar also took part in an event with leading Moroccan companies, organised by the Tanja Foundation, where he pointed out that ‘the transformation that Morocco has undergone in recent years, with major advances in its economic development and political and business stability, gives us the confidence to continue firmly committed to the country as an economic hub in the region, and encourages us to continue investing in the area’.

Among the sectors that CaixaBank's CEO sees the greatest opportunities for the future in Morocco are: energy and the environment, especially collaboration in renewable energy and environmental projects, infrastructure, transport, water resources, sustainable agriculture, sustainable tourism, digital services and World Cup 2030, as a catalyst for many future investments.
