The renewable production of the group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán increased by 6.1% to 58,742 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the January-September period, compared to the same period last year.
Iberdrola reaches 41,303 MW renewable at the end of September

Iberdrola has reached 41,303 renewable megawatts (MW) at the end of September, which represents a growth of 5.5% in the last year, after having installed almost 3,000 new MW in the last twelve months, according to data sent by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
Thus, the renewable production of the group presided by Ignacio Sánchez Galán increased by 6.1% to 58,742 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the period from January to September, compared to the same period last year, reports Europa Press.
By technologies, Iberdrola's photovoltaic capacity grew by 45.6% in the last 12 months - with 1,697 MW of new installed capacity - and stood at 5,420 MW at the end of the third quarter of 2023. As a result, this technology now accounts for 13% of the company's total renewable energy.
The group's growth in wind energy also stood out. Offshore wind power increased by 28.6% to 1,618 MW at the end of September 2023, with the incorporation of 360 MW of new capacity, bringing this technology to 1,618 MW.
In this regard, the energy company connected to the French electricity grid the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, which it is building in the waters of Brittany, France, and which is the first large-scale offshore wind project in Brittany and the second in France to produce clean energy.
Meanwhile, onshore wind power grew by 4.5% in the last twelve months - after adding almost 900 MW of new capacity - bringing its total to 20,764 MW.
In the third quarter, the company also carried out the exchange of hydroelectric power plants - Dardanelos and Telepires - in Brazil with Eletrobras, as the company announced on September 27.
In this way, the group is making progress on its historic investment plan of 47 billion euros between 2023 and 2025, with which it aims to reach 52,000 MW of renewable installed capacity by 2025, with a special focus on offshore wind power, where the company plans to invest more than 11 billion euros by 2026.
This increased contribution of renewable energies led Iberdrola to raise its emissions-free production ratio to 81%, a percentage that in the case of Spain rises to 86%. The company thus maintains its CO2 emission level at around 66% below that of its European competitors.
In terms of installed capacity, the investments made by the company mean that more than 81% of its own capacity is emission-free, a percentage that reaches 91% in the United States, 88% in Brazil and zero in the United Kingdom, where it is 100% green.
