Iberdrola Spain reaches 1,000 solar communities in the country

Iberdrola Spain, Iberdrola's subsidiary in the country, has now reached 1,000 solar communities in the country, facilitating access to self-consumption for more than 100,000 families. In 2015, the company was a pioneer in offering self-consumption to its customers. Aware that more than two-thirds of the country's population lives in high-rise buildings, in 2019 it launched solar communities, a solution that allows any resident located less than 2 km from an installation to access 100% renewable energy from nearby.
Iberdrola's solar communities allow residents to enjoy all the benefits of solar energy without the need for photovoltaic panels on their own roofs or without making any investment, as the company takes care of the installation and finds the best location.
Among the locations with the highest number of Iberdrola Solar Communities, with 170 installations, Madrid stands out in first place, followed by the Valencian Community (148).
Meanwhile, Extremadura, with more than 19,000 families, is the community where the highest number of households can access self-consumption through this solution.
The more than 1,000 Solar Communities launched by Iberdrola enable customers to save up to 30% on their electricity bills, in addition to reducing their dependence on fossil fuels. Each Solar Community will prevent the emission of around 640 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years, improving air quality in the areas where they are installed.
